Wait, She’s a Billionaire (Sheena Lawson) novel Chapter 2231

"It's fine. Grandma's probably asleep, and I don't want to disturb her. Besides, Callum has tutoring tomorrow. You should get some rest. Troy can just drive me back to Ascend Apartment," Mavis replied.

She had not left the car and was about to roll up the window when Nathaniel freed a hand to hold the window gap.

"Stay a bit longer. I need to talk to you."

She nodded, watching Nathaniel carry the sleeping Callum into the garden, disappearing into the night.

Ten minutes later, Nathaniel returned and told Troy to get out of the driver's seat. Then, Nathaniel got in the back seat.

Mavis, who had been dozing off while waiting, caught a whiff of strong tobacco.

"You managed to catch a smoke in such a short time?"

"Yeah," he replied. "Don't worry, it was after I settled Callum."

Mavis did not say anything more. Instead, she opened the window and deliberately sat further away.

However, this action seemed to provoke Nathaniel. He frowned deeply and asked coldly, "Are you that disgusted with me, while Evan is worth your concern?"

Mavis was puzzled by his words. "What?"

The car interior was cramped, and their eyes met.

The streetlight outside shone in, illuminating Nathaniel's sharp and handsome features. His dark blue eyes seemed to be suppressing some emotion.

"Tell me honestly, do you like Evan?"

Mavis laughed. "What are you on about now? I've told you before, we're just good friends."

"Would good friends hug each other so intimately, meet each other's families, or worry so much about each other's safety when apart?" He uttered through gritted teeth, his voice low and grating.

Mavis felt a chill in her heart and found it even more amusing.

"I'm going to take this call outside," she said before getting out of the car and walking to the fence to answer the phone.

Troy was waiting there and had no choice but to walk back to the car, not daring to disturb Mavis's call. He sat in the driver's seat and noticed Nathaniel leaning against the car seat, seemingly resting. However, his furrowed brows and expression betrayed his true feelings.

"Mr. Nicholls, did you just have an argument with Mrs. Nicholls?" Troy asked.

Nathaniel rubbed his forehead, not saying a word.

The couple's voices had been so loud that Troy had caught some keywords from outside the car.

He sighed and continued, "Even though Ms. Serrano has passed away, in Mrs. Nicholls's eyes, your past with her is still the reason that almost caused her to have a difficult childbirth. It's a thorn in her side. You know this, so why bring up Ms. Serrano?"

Nathaniel was taken aback by the accusation. "She brought it up first."

Troy replied, "Then you should have gone along with Mrs. Nicholls and not argued with her. Don't forget that you're in a weak position right now. The signed and stamped divorce agreement is still in Mrs. Nicholls's hands. The two-week period is almost half over. You've finally managed to improve your relationship with Mrs. Nicholls recently, but I'm afraid this argument might set you back to square one."
