"Adora, what if one day Uncle Eli doesn't want you as his daughter anymore? What would you do?"
Adora looked puzzled. "That's impossible. Even though I love to get into trouble and Dad often nags me, I know he loves me. He would never cut ties with me."
Adora was unaware of the details of the kidnapping case, and Callum could not find a subtle yet accurate way to express his feelings, so he dropped the subject.
Adora had her jet-black hair tied in a high ponytail. As the sunlight streamed through the window illuminated her face, she looked just like a painting.
Just being around her seemed to soothe Callum's heart.
However, Adora kept glancing at her watch.
After chatting with him for only about half an hour, she stood up and said, "Beanie, Mom asked me to go check on Asher. If you're tired, you should get some rest. I'll be back soon."
He felt a bit reluctant. "You have to come back, okay? You promised."
Adora smiled brightly, nodded, and left the room.
Once she was gone, the room seemed to turn colder and emptier.
Callum felt uneasy.
When he was alone, his mind kept drifting to images of Nathaniel and Asher.
Asher was still weak and apparently had not been discharged yet.
Was Nathaniel still there with him, comforting him?
Since waking up yesterday morning, he had not seen Nathaniel.
However, he seemed to recall Nathaniel coming over once.
Or maybe he had just dreamed it.
It felt so unreal.
Was Nathaniel really going to abandon him?
Sobbing quietly, Callum lay on the bed, clutching his pillow tightly, and let his sadness consume him.
However, this nurse not only touched his face but also gave it a gentle pinch.
The woman quickly withdrew her hand, opening the blood pressure cuff.
Callum watched her closely.
"Nurse, your hair is so pretty. It's different from the other nurses."
Different from Adora's hair too.
This nurse had stunningly golden hair.
The woman was caught by surprise, looking up to meet Callum's gaze.
Her beautiful blue eyes and golden hair slowly started to resemble the woman in Nathaniel's marriage certificate.
Realization struck Callum, and he gasped, rubbing his eyes repeatedly to confirm.
He exclaimed in disbelief, "Mommy, is that you?"
