Nathaniel gently placed Callum's hand back under the covers and quietly set the gift box containing the remote-controlled car on the bedside table.
Callum remained sound asleep, undisturbed by the movement.
Nathaniel affectionately patted Callum's head before his phone buzzed with a call from Tommy.
He immediately tucked the blanket around Callum and left the room as quietly as possible.
As soon as the call was connected, Tommy immediately reported, "Mr. Nicholls, the parents of the kids are high-ranking executives at Svelton's Top Global Enterprise. The father is a project manager, and the mother has shares in the group…"
Tommy detailed his findings, and Nathaniel listened intently, lost in thought.
The couple was merely an ordinary wealthy family. Logically, they would not dare to offend the Nicholls family.
It was not a secret that Nathaniel was demoted from his position as director of the Special Investigation Department and sent to a high-security prison. Most of Svelton's elite knew about it.
However, since he had taken control of the Nicholls family and established himself at the Nicholls Group, almost no one had dared mention the past.
Did the twins deliberately mention the matters to Callum, or was it just a slip of the tongue?
"Mr. Nicholls?" Tommy's voice broke through Nathaniel's thoughts.
Snapping back to the present, Nathaniel instructed, "Continue the investigation. Also, look into the twins' hospital situation. I want all available records—besides the footage from the kindergarten, get the ambulance logs, medical records, everything."
"Yes, Mr. Nicholls."
…
The next day, Callum took a day off from school.
Adora was supposed to train with her youth squad, but her classes were canceled for the day due to the heavy rain.
She arrived at the Nicholls residence with just a driver, navigating through the garden until she found Callum sitting alone under a tree, lost in thought.
"Beanie, what are you thinking about?"
She nudged Callum's small shoulder and took a seat beside him.
He wished he had a gentle, beautiful mom like Sheena, who could stand up to Nathaniel.
Adora pinched his soft cheek and asked, "Why are you suddenly asking about this? Did Uncle Nate hit you?"
Yes, and it was pretty harsh!
Callum could only imagine what would happen if Mildred did not arrive in time.
Nonetheless, he knew he was at fault too.
"I got into a fight and accidentally injured someone badly enough to send them to the hospital. I was way too rough."
Adora was shocked. "Sent to the hospital? No way, Beanie! You're a lot stronger than I thought."
She looked at Callum with new curiosity.
"Come on! Let's fight. I'll go easy on you and just use one hand."
