Nathaniel knew that Declan would go after Kristen, so he had specifically brought his own team to confront Declan.
His primary target was Declan himself.
Kristen knew all of Declan's secrets, and Nathaniel wanted to question her to uncover information that could be used to leverage Declan.
Additionally, he hoped to take Kristen back and hand her over to the National Investigation Bureau. Then, they could use her information to build a case against Declan and, as a bonus, fulfill a favor for the Bureau.
With Elliot's case progressing, Lionel's team would handle Declan's capture, and the National Investigation Bureau would naturally get involved.
This plan would not only remove an enemy but also earn goodwill from the National Investigation Bureau, achieving multiple goals with one move.
However, the plan failed miserably because Nathaniel had underestimated Declan's strength.
Even though Declan had not brought many men to find Kristen, those who had accompanied him were experienced and more formidable than Nathaniel's own bodyguards.
Despite having an advantage in numbers, Nathaniel's team barely managed to hold their ground, with neither side gaining the upper hand.
As for Kristen, Nathaniel had initially thought that the first time she saved him was part of a ploy, but the second time was genuine.
He had intended to persuade Kristen to cooperate with Elliot and seek leniency, hoping she would reform once released from prison. However, Kristen clearly had no intention of cooperating.
Nathaniel sighed, reflecting on his encounter with Declan.
He placed a hand over his heart, feeling an inexplicable sense of fear as if something significant was about to happen.
He checked his watch once more and calculated Mavis's due date.
He had not made a mistake. There were still six days remaining.
"Arrange for the injured bodyguards to be sent to the hospital as soon as we dock. The medical expenses should be billed to the Nicholls Group's finance department, and the compensation should be doubled. Make sure everything is taken care of properly."
Troy nodded. "Rest assured, we will handle it accordingly."
Nathaniel gave a faint grunt and closed his eyes to rest, thinking his anxiousness might be from the constant travel and lack of proper rest over the past few days.
Troy had just returned the call and learned the details.
His eyes were red, and his voice choked with emotion.
"Mr. Nicholls, I just received word that there was a storm the night before last. Mrs. Nicholls was startled by the thunder, which led to complications in labor… Mrs. Nicholls… had a difficult delivery…"
It was heavy news, and Nathaniel's mind buzzed with distress.
Troy continued speaking, but Nathaniel could not make out the words.
Mavis had complications during labor?
How could this be?
Clenching his fists to suppress his overwhelming emotions, Nathaniel snapped, "Arrange a flight immediately! To the hospital, now!"
