The bedside lamp was turned off, but Mavis could not sleep.
A wave of emotions surged within her, and she had so much she wanted to say.
Besides, it seemed that nighttime was the best time to express one's mind freely, and she had no reason to hold back her emotions.
"Gabrielle, actually, Nate was seriously injured in Gurenchti and went missing for a while."
"What? He went missing! What happened?"
Gabrielle was shocked.
She was completely clueless about this.
If the Nicholls family's enemies had known Nathaniel was missing, it could have caused serious trouble.
She sat up in bed, turned on the bedside lamp, and gestured for Mavis to continue.
"He went to Gurenchti to handle some issues with a new company, and I went there to surprise him. Unexpectedly, he got into trouble and was later rescued by a girl, but…"
Mavis paused before continuing, "That girl looks a bit like Sheena."
Her voice trembled.
To be honest, she was afraid of Kristen's presence.
She had been having the same nightmare over the past few days where Kristen suddenly appeared beside Nathaniel, and Nathaniel broke off their marriage to be with her.
She knew that with Nathaniel's status, he could marry any girl he liked.
Moreover, he did not like her, and anyone could take her place.
Gabrielle finally understood the real reason for their fight.
It all made sense.
However, Gabrielle did not seem to take Kristen's existence seriously at all.
She gently patted Mavis's shoulder, comforting her, "Don't put so much pressure on yourself. It's not easy to marry into our family, and I only recognize you as my sister-in-law. Mae, Nate isn't the kind of person who fools around. He'll encounter all sorts of people, and many women might try to get close to him, but you need to have more trust in him. You understand what I mean, right?"
In other words, there would always be women around Nathaniel, especially with his status.
"Bring in a cup of coffee."
Hanging up the phone, Mavis quickly prepared a cup of coffee and headed to his office.
She wore her usual work attire but with a pale green cardigan over it.
Seeing her outfit, Nathaniel's expression shifted.
Suddenly, the coffee cup slipped from his hand, spilling coffee across the table and soaking nearby documents.
Not understanding his intense reaction, Mavis quickly grabbed some napkins to clean up the mess.
The freshly printed important documents were now soaked.
She moved to remove them for reprinting, but Nathaniel grabbed her wrist.
He asked in an icy voice, "Why are you wearing this color?"
Mavis was confused and turned to look at him.
