The sunlight reflected in her amber eyes, making them bright and captivating.
Nathaniel glanced at the water and sky again, silently sighing.
While fate might have made the encounter possible, they did not share the same path.
Perhaps, one day, he might be willing to stay in this village for her…
"Do you hear that? It's the sound of a helicopter," Kristen said, looking up at the sky.
In the distance, a black dot grew larger and larger, steadily moving closer.
She knew it was the people coming to take Nathaniel back.
"It's time for you to go," Kristen continued, her smile radiant.
"Your family is here to take you home. They must have been very worried about you."
Nathaniel looked into Kristen's eyes.
Her gaze held no trace of reluctance as if their time together had not left any lasting impression on her.
He smiled mockingly, laughing at himself.
Kristen indeed resembled Sheena, even in the way she never seemed to care about him.
The helicopter hovered above, but Nathaniel stood unmoving, his expression stoic.
His blue eyes were as beautiful as gemstones, yet no one could truly see into his soul.
He looked away and asked indifferently, "Kristen, will you remember me?"
Kristen forced herself not to look at him, turning away as her voice caught in her throat. "I'm glad to have known you, but my grandma always said not to force anything. You and I belong to different worlds."
Nathaniel said nothing, his gaze steady on her face, his thoughts unreadable.
…
From the helicopter window, Mavis saw the man she had longed for standing safely on the beach.
She felt the weight on her heart finally lift, and she let out a shaky breath, her hands trembling from the tension.
However, she soon noticed another figure standing beside Nathaniel.
From above, it seemed to be a woman.
Nathaniel frowned slightly and patted her shoulder to reassure her.
"I'm fine. Let's go."
Mavis was taken aback by his coldness.
Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Kristen standing at a distance.
She could not see the woman's face from the helicopter, but she immediately noticed the issue as they were closer.
This girl bore a resemblance to Sheena.
Kristen was also looking at her, their eyes meeting across the distance.
She smiled politely, her demeanor respectful and composed, without any hint of hostility.
Mavis could not bring herself to smile.
She turned back to Nathaniel, who was looking down, avoiding her gaze.
She could not read what he was thinking, but she had a feeling she understood.
