Elliot breathed a sigh of relief.
"I see. Stay on the line while I get Lance to check."
…
Lance was dozing off at his desk when the phone rang, startling him awake.
He quickly picked up the call and greeted, "Mr. Jenkins, what do you need help with?"
"Find out Nathaniel Nicholls' latest movements. ASAP."
Nathaniel?
Lance was confused, still groggy from sleep.
When he did not respond immediately, he heard Elliot's icy voice asking, "Do I need to repeat myself?"
The coldness in his tone sent a shiver down Lance's spine.
"On it right now, Mr. Jenkins."
Lance immediately began typing away on his keyboard and reported, "According to our investigation, Nathaniel left the country on a private jet around 3 p.m. However, we can't trace which country he went to."
After receiving the information, Elliot returned to his call with Sheena.
"Honey, as you heard, Nathaniel is currently out of the country."
Elliot's voice carried a hint of relief and pride.
Sheena shook her head and replied, "Got it. Thanks, I'll talk to you later."
Sheena then called Mavis.
"Mae, where are you? I'm coming to find you."
Mavis sent her location.
Soon, Sheena arrived and found Mavis in the private room, looking sad.
Her heart ached seeing Mavis in such a state.
Sheena could empathize with Mavis's feelings. The helplessness of not knowing where your loved one is was simply unbearable.
Moreover, not everyone was as courageous as Mavis, going to another country or city to pursue love.
"Are you okay?"
Mavis answered, "Mr. Anderson, Mr. Nicholls is out of the country today. If you want to meet with him, you'll have to wait a few days."
The voice on the other end sounded disappointed. "That's too bad. I wanted to discuss some future plans with Mr. Nicholls. Please make sure he contacts me when he returns."
"Will do. Thanks for understanding."
After hanging up, Mavis's anxiety returned.
Sheena noticed her unease and offered, "Do you want me to drive you home?"
Mavis shook her head.
"It's fine, Sheena. You've already done more than enough. I'm grateful for your help finding out about Nate's movements. You've even come all this way. I'm really sorry for the trouble. I'll head home now."
Mavis was not someone who liked to inconvenience others, especially Sheena, who was so important to Nathaniel.
She did not want to cause Sheena more trouble.
Seeing her resolve, Sheena did not push further.
She offered a few more comforting words before leaving the restaurant.
