So, it was not because she had talked a lot with Sheena tonight but because she had called him by the wrong name?
"What? Do I need to spell it out for you?"
Nathaniel's gaze remained as icy and intimidating as ever.
Mavis quickly averted her eyes. "I understand, Mr— Honey."
After hearing her call him "honey", Nathaniel seemed to have calmed down slightly, and his furrowed brows gradually relaxed.
The car smoothly returned to the road, driving steadily.
In the rearview mirror, Mavis saw that her lips were swollen.
Recalling his domineering kiss, her heart began to race.
Though his kiss was forceful, it was the third time he had kissed her willingly.
She had read online that a man would only kiss someone they had feelings for.
Did Nathaniel's actions mean he liked her, even just a little?
This thought startled her, and she stole a glance at him before quickly looking away.
The next morning, Mavis went to work as usual.
The people in the logistics department still eyed her strangely.
Esther had arrived early and ran into Mavis in the hallway. Trying to avoid her, Esther was stopped when Mavis called out.
"Esther, I think we need to talk."
Esther, looking guilty, avoided eye contact and clutched her files tightly.
"I have to go print these documents. I don't have time."
Mavis let out a cold laugh and blocked her path.
"What are you afraid of? You falsified those accounts, didn't you? I don't care who paid you off. If you made a mistake, you need to be prepared to face the consequences."
She was not a saint. She would not let others take advantage of her without a fight.
Esther was visibly shaken by Mavis's intensity but still tried to stand her ground.
"I don't know what you're talking about. I need to get to work."
At the mall, Mavis bought everything she needed according to her list.
As dusk fell, she prepared to catch a cab back to the office.
She stood by the curb for a few minutes, and a cab soon pulled up.
Seeing her struggle with the bags, the driver kindly helped load them into the trunk.
With rush hour approaching, it would take nearly an hour to get back to the office due to traffic.
Exhausted from running around the city all afternoon, Mavis dozed off in the car after telling the driver to wake her when they arrived.
…
A loud crash jolted Mavis awake.
The windshield shattered, and sharp fragments cut her cheek as their car collided with a truck loaded with goods.
The airbag deployed, and she felt intense pain in her leg.
However, there was no time to think about her injuries as her mind was on the goods in the car!
