Wait, She’s a Billionaire (Sheena Lawson) novel Chapter 1636

"He's not. He's just trying to make things difficult for you and knows it's a tough ask. Don't worry too much about it. Just do what you can," Sheena reassured.

Not far away, Elliot waved at Sheena.

She quickly bid Nathaniel goodbye and joyfully walked over to her beloved husband, naturally slipping her arm through his.

Nathaniel's blue eyes dimmed as he watched the loving couple, and a distant look clouded his gaze.

Suddenly, he realized Mavis had not returned from the bathroom, and it had been quite a while.

Frowning, he scanned the crowd for her, but she was nowhere to be found.

Just then, his phone buzzed with a message from Mavis.

[Mavis: I'm waiting in the car. My ankle hurts too much.]

Seeing the message, Nathaniel's expression softened as he left the event.

Back in the car, he asked with concern, "What happened to your ankle?"

Mavis hid her emotions and responded calmly, "I'm not used to wearing high heels. They rubbed my heel raw, but it's okay. I already took care of it."

"Alright," Nathaniel replied, not noticing any change in her mood.

Then, he drove them home.

The next day, Mavis went to work as usual and sent the revised proposal to Aileen.

Her injured ankle made her walk with a noticeable limp.

On her way to the break room, she ran into Diana and her group.

Rowena blocked her path, making snide remarks.

"Well, if it isn't our amazing intern and the star of the big meeting. Mavis, what's with the limp? Did you do something you shouldn't have and got what you deserved?"

Mavis glared at them.

"You all know exactly what you've done. Do I really need to spell it out?"

"I told you, Mavis must have something going on with Mr. Chapman. Why else would both Ms. Hayward and Mr. Nicholls be so lenient with her?"

"With Mr. Nicholls's personality, anyone else who made such a huge mistake would have been fired by now. But she's still here!"

Diana chimed in, "We're all doing the same job in this department. Why does she get special treatment? It's so unfair. Leia, you've been here the longest. Tell us, are we wrong to feel this way?"

The others nodded in agreement.

"Such bad apples need to be dealt with. It's ruining the integrity of our department."

Leia Greene, a seasoned employee, understood the subtext.

Not wanting to cross her more established colleagues for a mere intern, she sided with them.

"Before Mavis came, our department didn't have this issue. If everyone starts using their looks to get ahead, no one will take their work seriously," she said.

Diana's eyes gleamed with satisfaction.

With the growing dissent, she was sure Mavis would not last much longer at the company!
