Mavis's skin was naturally fair and smooth, which the makeup artist could not help but admire.
"Your skin is incredible. If I can't bring out your beauty with my makeup, I should just quit this profession altogether," the makeup artist commented.
The makeup artist was a foreigner who had recently moved over, and her accent was still strong.
Mavis chuckled at her joke.
After the makeover, Mavis finally emerged from the room.
The seven-centimeter high heels made her steps unsteady, so she had to walk carefully.
When she stepped out, the bodyguards and Tommy were all stunned.
Her golden locks were styled in soft waves, elegantly draped over her left shoulder.
With the pale pink lipstick and curled eyelashes, she appeared just like a delicate Barbie doll.
Nathaniel put down his finance magazine, and a hint of surprise flickered in his usually calm gaze.
When he noticed the men staring at Mavis, he tossed the magazine aside with a thud.
The sound snapped Tommy out of his trance, and he quickly led the others out of the room.
Mavis stood nervously before Nathaniel, unable to read his emotions as he appeared cold.
He said nothing for a long time.
Unable to bear the silence, Mavis asked, "Do I not look good?"
Nathaniel cleared his throat, awkwardly touching his nose.
"You look okay. Get ready. We need to leave for the event."
With that, he stood up and walked away to change into his suit.
Mavis watched him go, feeling slightly disappointed.
She glanced down at her gown, its diamonds shimmering brightly.
Nathaniel sensed her anxiety and gently patted her hand to comfort her.
Leaning in, he whispered, "Relax, I'm here."
His voice had a calming effect on her, and she felt a bit more assured.
As Nathaniel mingled with other attendees, she played the role of the smiling companion.
"Mr. Nicholls, it's been a while. The Nicholls Group is doing exceptionally well these days, and I truly hope we can continue our good business relations."
Nathaniel clinked glasses with him, responding politely, "Mr. Hendricks, you're too kind. The Hendricks Group has always been a valued partner. Mutual support is only natural."
The man, Jesse Hendricks, soon noticed Mavis by Nathaniel's side and gave her an appraising look.
"Mr. Nicholls, your companion is quite stunning. I must say, I'm envious."
Jesse's gaze lingered on Mavis in a way that made her uncomfortable. It felt as though she was a piece of merchandise being evaluated.
