Asher scoffed, saying, "Excuses."
These were all just adult excuses.
If there really was nothing wrong, why could they not take the call themselves?
"Asher doesn’t believe you. Let Elliot take the phone."
Lionel glanced at the back seat, feeling a bit troubled.
"They can’t take the call right now. They're already asleep."
It had been an eventful night, and they were exhausted.
Lionel secretly hoped they could rest a bit longer.
"Asher and Adora, have I ever lied to you? Don't you trust me? They’re really tired from all the work. Let them rest, okay?"
Lionel's steady voice came through the speaker.
Sniffling, Adora took the phone and nodded, "Okay, Uncle Lionel, take good care of Mommy and Daddy. Asher and I will wait for them."
After hanging up, Adora pouted and lay on Nathaniel’s lap, her little body occasionally trembling from her earlier crying.
Exhausted, she soon fell asleep on his shoulder.
Asher was still skeptical.
He moved away from Nathaniel and turned over to sleep.
A few hours later, the sky began to brighten, and the clear, post-rain sky was incredibly bright.
When Sheena and Elliot arrived at the lab, they quickly headed to Asher's ward.
Asher had just woken up.
He tried hard to suppress the joy in his eyes, calling out softly, "Mommy."
Seeing the tiredness on Asher's face, Sheena hugged him tightly, gently patting his back.
"I'm always here. I'll never leave."
After comforting him, Sheena carefully laid Asher down and coaxed him back to sleep.
They were just bruises, nothing major.
Yosef looked puzzled. "Elliot, normally, you wouldn't even flinch at these small injuries. Why are you asking for a checkup?"
Elliot raised his head, replying, "Keaton injected me with some kind of drug. I need you to run a blood test and see what kind of virus it is."
Yosef was alarmed at hearing this and immediately prepared the blood drawing tools, starting a series of tests to monitor Elliot's bodily functions.
Half an hour later, after a bunch of tests, Yosef frowned.
"Strange, there's no sign of any suspicious viral agents in your body."
Elliot's expression turned serious. "Are you sure?"
Yosef pointed at the complex structures on the screen and explained, "Elliot, any viral agent entering the body would react with surrounding cells immediately. Plus, the water you drank earlier was laced with a virus marker. It would detect any viral agents present. But your body shows no markers, meaning no virus was injected."
Elliot also thought it was strange that he did not feel any discomfort.
Could Keaton have been bluffing?
