Nancy glanced at Elliot awkwardly, managing a weak smile before sitting back down.
Sheena shifted her gaze back to Elliot, taking a longer look while he was still lost in his sorrow.
When he finally lifted his head, she quickly averted her eyes and asked calmly, "If you say you're my husband, do you have anything to prove it?"
Elliot thought for a moment.
Then, he pulled out his phone from his pocket.
His fingers trembled slightly as he unlocked the phone and opened the photo album, showing Sheena a picture of the four of them in the hospital.
Sheena looked at the photo briefly and commented, "Photos can be edited. If you came prepared, having something like this isn't surprising."
The implication was clear: she did not believe him.
Elliot let out a resigned sigh, smiling wryly as he explained, "We have five-year-old twins, a boy named Asher Jenkins and a girl named Adora Lawson. They have different last names because of inheritance issues concerning the Jenkins and Lawson families. That was your decision. The year you were pregnant was tough. Your dad fell down the stairs and passed away in the hospital, and people questioned your identity as the Lawson family's heiress. All the pain weighed on you heavily. During that time, your emotions were unstable, and you often felt restless…"
He paused, slowly rolling up his left sleeve to reveal his muscular forearm.
The veins were pronounced due to his clenched fist.
Turning his arm slightly, he showed two rows of faint bite marks, scars that had almost faded away.
Elliot's fingers traced the scar, his long eyelashes trembling as his voice cracked.
"This is from when I stopped you from eating clementines. You were so angry that you bit me. It hurt… a lot."
It was so, so unbearable…
The pain of her not remembering him, of saying she would not choose him, was far worse than any physical discomfort.
Sheena turned her head away, not looking at the bite mark.
Her expression remained calm, almost indifferent.
Nancy watched their faces, sighed, and shook her head, unsure of what to say.
Elliot shook his head.
Squatting was nothing.
If there were no others around, he would kneel and even slap himself to atone, anything to make her remember.
Sheena asked again, "You mentioned you have two five-year-old children. At such a young age, they need their parents with them. Are you really going to stay here instead of going back to take care of them?"
Her distant tone suggested she did not welcome his presence and wanted him to leave.
Elliot was momentarily stunned.
He shook his head again, firmly.
His beloved wife was here, so he would stay here.
Nothing could make him leave.
