Nathaniel slowly turned the doorknob and saw Lionel sitting by the bed, glaring at Asher, who was lying there with an equally sour expression.
It seemed they had just had a heated argument.
Seeing that Lionel was also having a tough time, Nathaniel felt much better.
Then, he kept a calm expression and carried Adora into the room.
"What's going on here? Why is there so much tension? And why aren't you asleep at this hour?"
Lionel and Asher both turned to glare at Nathaniel.
"You're not asleep either. Mind your own business," they said in unison.
Lionel was clearly frustrated, scowling at the difficult child without saying a word.
Asher huffed and looked at Nathaniel.
"What's going on with you and Uncle Lionel? Why are you keeping Adora and me at the lab? Is it because Daddy and Mommy want to have some alone time?"
Lionel was seething with anger.
Asher was too stubborn!
Why couldn't he be more understanding?
Lionel fumed silently, not knowing what to say next.
After arguing all night, Asher had out-debated him with flawless logic.
Adora squirmed in Nathaniel's arms, indicating she wanted to be put on Asher's bed.
Understanding her, Nathaniel walked over, took off her shoes, and placed her on the bed.
Adora immediately threw herself into Asher's arms, sobbing, "Asher, I had a nightmare! I dreamt that Mommy got hurt and didn't want us anymore…"
She recounted her nightmare in heart-wrenching detail.
Asher's face grew paler with each word.
He held his chest, struggling with the pain from his condition.
"I just… slept for half an hour and had the same nightmare…"
Lionel and Nathaniel exchanged glances, both suddenly alarmed.
Could it be true that a mother and her children's bond was the strongest?
Was Sheena in trouble?
The two had a grave expression.
Asher was already struggling to breathe, his face growing paler.
Lionel and Nathaniel exchanged guilty looks and quickly lowered their heads, not arguing back.
Luis gave them a stern look before silently preparing the IV treatment.
Soon, he returned with a medical tray, but Asher refused the needle, stubbornly staring at Lionel.
"Take me to see Daddy or Mommy, or I won't get the IV. I'll endure the pain all night if I have to."
Lionel hesitated.
He recalled Elliot's instructions and was caught in a dilemma.
"It's raining outside. You're already weak. What if you catch a cold? Svelton is chaotic right now. Your daddy left you here to keep you safe. Can't you trust me?"
Asher shook his head, utterly stubborn.
Lionel sighed.
"I won't go with the treatment if you don't bring me to Daddy and Mommy."
Luis tutted, visibly distressed.
"They're just five-year-olds, suddenly left here without explanation. No wonder they're upset and can't fall asleep."
Lionel and Nathaniel remained silent, acknowledging the truth in Luis's words.
