The logistics department was unusually calm that entire afternoon.
The employees of the Nicholls Group were focused on their tasks, and the morning's gossip seemed to have died down.
No one mentioned the rat incident again, and a strange atmosphere of diligence lingered in the office.
After cleaning the lab restrooms, Nathaniel decided to drive to the office instead of heading straight home.
He figured Mavis might get lost, knowing how clueless she could be.
Hence, he opted to wait for her. However, he chose not to go into the logistics department, as his frequent visits could raise suspicions and create unnecessary trouble.
He parked his car in the underground car park.
With the window rolled down, he casually rolled up his sleeves and loosened his tie, revealing a hint of his collarbone.
As Nathaniel waited, he relaxed with a cigarette, looking every bit like a husband waiting to pick up his wife.
Meanwhile, having finished her tasks early, Diana clocked out on time.
She had recently bought a used car and was fixing her makeup in the elevator, reapplying her lipstick before heading to the parking level.
Finding her temporary parking spot, she saw a black, limited-edition Bentley parked nearby.
The luxury car was a stark contrast to her own 15,000-dollar second-hand vehicle.
Diana stared enviously at the Bentley.
Among the Nicholls Group's executives, only a few could afford such a car.
Could it be… Nathaniel?
Feeling a surge of excitement, she quietly approached from behind her car.
The man inside was leaning back, smoking, his arm resting on the window.
Diana also noticed the luxury watch gleaming on his wrist, signaling his high status.
Her heart was pounding, and she calmed herself slightly before braving herself to walk over.
She stood outside the driver's side door of the Bentley, bent slightly, and subtly adjusted her blouse to reveal a bit of cleavage.
With a playful tilt of her head, she smiled sweetly and feigned surprise.
"Mr. Nicholls? What a coincidence seeing you here!"
Nathaniel exhaled a smoke ring and responded with a nonchalant hum, not even glancing at her.
His bad temper was just as rumored.
Even so, Diana was undeterred.
With a hand on her chest, she appeared apologetic as she asked anxiously, "I'm sorry for bothering you. My car seems to have a problem. It won't start. Can I possibly get a ride with you?"
Her heart pounded wildly as she made the request.
Nathaniel's response was swift and blunt.
"No. I have a thing about cleanliness."
Was he implying that she was dirty?
Diana's ears turned red with embarrassment, but she persisted. "Could you at least take a look at my car? I'm a new driver, and I bought this car just a few months ago. I really don't know why it won't start."
Nathaniel's tone grew more impatient.
"If your car has a problem, call the dealership."
His brief response made his refusal crystal clear.
Diana was on the verge of tears, partly from the nervousness and partly from the shock of how difficult Nathaniel was to approach.
