As Nathaniel entered the ward with Adora, he noticed that besides Asher, Lionel was also present.
Nathaniel quipped lightly, "Lionel, aren't you usually busy at the National Investigation Bureau? How do you have time to visit Asher in the lab?"
With one hand in his pocket, Lionel leaned against the chair, looking relaxed.
"There's a big case at the bureau recently, and Elliot personally stepped in. I thought I'd be of help there, but Elliot insisted on giving me a day off to take care of Asher."
It was clearly another job duty disguised as time off, but Lionel seemed quite pleased as if it were a paid reward.
Adora kicked off her shoes and climbed onto the bed, sitting next to Asher.
"Asher, how are you feeling? Does the IV hurt? Can I massage your shoulders?"
Asher's annoyance toward Nathaniel was evident, and he did not have a pleasant expression for Adora either.
He avoided her affectionate hug and said, "I'm fine, and it doesn't hurt. I'm used to it. Stop bothering me. I'll be more comfortable without you annoying me."
"Oh… Okay then…"
Adora released him, sitting quietly beside him for once.
Asher then looked at Nathaniel, his expression cool and adult-like.
"Nathaniel, I heard you and Uncle Lionel agreed to fight each other a few years ago?"
One was addressed by name, and the other was referred to as 'Uncle'.
Asher's attitude toward the two men was apparent.
Nonetheless, Nathaniel seemed unfazed.
Even if Asher told all of Froania that he did not consider Nathaniel his godfather, which was something Nathaniel had to endure.
Lionel jumped in with a laugh, "That's right! We agreed on that before, but we never had the time to follow through. Nathaniel, let's find a place to settle it whenever you're free."
Nathaniel was about to respond when Asher beat him to it.
He asked Nathaniel straight in his face, and Nathaniel was already looking at him as if he already knew what mischief Asher was up to.
"Alright, a bet with our lives on the line it is," Nathaniel agreed without hesitation, knowing he was there to make amends to Asher.
Lionel hesitated, whispering to Nathaniel, "Are you serious about this?"
Nathaniel nodded.
Asher seemed delighted, his face beaming triumphantly as he exclaimed, "Then it's settled!"
He glanced at the nearly empty IV bag and added, "Let's meet at the basketball court behind the lab in half an hour. You'll have to sign a death waiver, get a lawyer to stamp it, and make it official."
Lionel was taken aback. "Is it really necessary to go this far?"
He was afraid of losing, but signing a death waiver, getting a lawyer involved, and stamping it seemed a bit too formal.
Was it necessary to do such things between friends?
