Nathaniel's deep blue eyes were icy cold, softened only when he looked at Sheena and Adora.
He responded indifferently to the woman in front of him, "If you find the compensation insufficient, feel free to discuss it with the finance department."
The woman's frown deepened, saying, "I didn't rescue Ms. Adora for the sake of compensation."
Pausing briefly, she continued with a slightly disapproving tone, "Mr. Nicholls, if I hadn't acted promptly, something might have happened to Ms. Adora. Even if it meant losing billions in contracts, her safety would have been more valuable, wouldn't it? Since you're here to accompany her, perhaps it's best not to focus on work. She's still a child, and her safety is the most important."
It had been long since Nathaniel, as the head of the Nicholls family, had been criticized by anyone.
He took a second look at the woman in her work uniform.
He had not noticed it before, but he realized her face seemed familiar upon closer inspection.
Had they met before?
Nathaniel could not recall. Even if he did, she was likely unimportant.
"Are you from Froania?"
"My mother is from Froania. I suppose that makes me half Froanian, a mixed-blood too," she replied.
Nathaniel looked away. "You're good-looking and tall. You'd probably be popular as a model. Why choose to work as a regular staff in an aquarium?"
The woman lowered her gaze. "I left my hometown specifically to find someone in Froania."
"Froania is huge. It's difficult to find someone that way. If you tell me their appearance, characteristics, and name, I can help you find them as compensation," Nathaniel offered.
"No need. I already did."
She concealed her disappointment and said no more, turning to leave the dolphin enclosure.
"Anyway, I won't take any more of your time with Ms. Adora. I'll wait outside."
Nathaniel watched her leave, sparing her a couple of extra glances, but he did not dwell on the incident.
Nathaniel froze, his gaze dimming with guilt.
"Asher is sick and can't come with us to see the dolphins. But this whole aquarium belongs to him, and he can have any little creature he wants here in the future."
Adora, seeming to understand that Asher was sick, furrowed her brows and grabbed Nathaniel's suit, obediently letting him carry her away.
As they exited the dolphin enclosure, the woman who had saved Adora earlier was standing outside.
Nathaniel stopped beside her, glancing at her sideways.
"What's your name?"
The woman was caught off guard by his sudden question.
She fiddled with the hem of her shirt as she replied, "Mavis Olsen."
Nathaniel silently repeated the name, feeling strangely familiar with it…
