The Lawson family's brothers were all present, making it feel like a small gathering.
Everyone took turns holding Adora, completely smitten by her.
Adora did not seem shy at all; she laughed happily, appearing outgoing and loving the attention.
Santiago observed from afar, noticing the worry on Sheena and Elliot's faces.
Later, Grant slowly pushed Santiago's wheelchair closer to Elliot.
In a wavery and deep voice, Santiago asked, "Eli, where's Asher? Why is it just Adora here?"
Sheena froze.
When Elliot was infected with the S404 virus, the entire Jenkins family kept it a secret because they feared Santiago would worry.
He did not know that Elliot had been coughing up blood daily after returning from Farlem due to the virus.
As the one who knew the truth best, Lionel's smile instantly faded.
His expression became serious as he subtly glanced at Elliot's reaction.
Though the Lawson family's brothers knew about the virus, they were unaware of the possibility of transmitting it to the babies.
Upon hearing Santiago's question, they also turned their focus to Sheena and Elliot.
Elliot remained composed, stating, "Asher caught a cold recently and is receiving IV treatment at the hospital. That's why he's not here for the celebration."
Santiago's expression turned especially worried as he responded, "It's also Asher's first birthday. Why leave him alone at the hospital for treatment? Which hospital is it? I'll send someone to bring Asher back immediately. Besides, E&S Haven has dedicated medical staff, and Asher could receive IV treatment here for his cold. Why take him to the hospital?"
Sheena avoided eye contact, pursing her lips and looking uneasy.
Elliot was much calmer and replied, "Nathaniel is at the hospital looking after Asher. He's the babies' godfather and will take good care of Asher during the treatment."
Sheena nodded in agreement. "Originally, Eli and I planned to stay at the hospital, but Adora got hungry, so we had to bring her home to feed her."
Their explanation deliberately skirted around Santiago's question about why Asher was in the hospital.
Hannah chimed in, "Poor Asher, getting sick and hospitalized on his birthday. How about video-calling Mr. Nicholls when it's cake-cutting time? That way, both babies can join in on the fun."
Sheena still refused. "No need. Asher will be tired after the IV. It'll be too much hassle for a video call."
With Sheena's refusal, the others reluctantly relented.
Corey sat on the couch, staring at Sheena.
Growing up together, Corey knew when Sheena was lying or hiding something, seeing through all her little actions.
He could not help but wonder what she was trying to hide.
Was there something else going on with Asher?
Although it was mere suspicion, Corey dared not ask.
After all, Sheena only finally agreed to let him in as it was Asher and Adora's birthday, and Corey and Barbara brought gifts over.
