Were they not taking her to an abandoned cabin in the mountains and keeping her there?
Just as doubt filled her heart, Sheena was pushed into a room.
One of the men in suits pressed her shoulders, letting her sit.
The seat felt soft, with the texture of fabric and cotton.
Was she sitting on a sofa?
Sheena could not shake off her confusion.
Was this an abduction, or was she being invited as a guest?
Soon, the blindfold was removed.
The sudden bright light made Sheena squint, and it took her a while to adjust before she could open her eyes again, only to realize she was in a luxurious and beautiful mansion.
They were likely in the living room, and she was seated on the side sofa.
Sheena turned her head and found a middle-aged man in a suit, exuding a combination of dominance and a hint of roguishness.
The man was leisurely smoking a brown cigar, reclining on the sofa.
His sharp yet cloudy eyes narrowed slightly, and he glanced at his subordinate beside him.
Understanding the signal, the man stepped forward, removed the cloth from Sheena's mouth, and then went to pour her a cup of tea at the coffee table.
He was surprisingly polite throughout.
"Let me introduce myself, Mrs. Jenkins. I'm Miguel Cameron, a top dog in the Svelton's underground business. This is one of my private residences, which hasn't been cleaned for a long time. Please forgive the lack of hospitality."
Sheena's expression was chilly as she glanced at the tea on the table.
She smirked as she said, "My ropes haven't even been untied. How am I supposed to drink your tea? Mr. Cameron, isn't it a bit excessive to invite me as a guest through such methods?"
Miguel exhaled the smoke from his cigar and chuckled.
"Mrs. Jenkins, you can just untie the ropes yourself. If my men do it, your plan will be exposed."
Miguel responded, "Mrs. Jenkins, you've misunderstood. The reason I wanted to take Asher wasn't to harm him, but to protect him."
Sheena was confused. "What do you mean?"
"I became a father late in life. My wife finally gave birth to a son when I was forty years old. He's just a little older than your baby, around four months, and also drinks Happiness brand formula. A few days ago, my son also got a fever due to his weak constitution and was admitted to the hospital. His ward happened to be on the same floor as your baby. When I received news about the formula issue, I've been investigating it too."
He paused for a moment before continuing, "The culprit is likely involved in the underworld too, and their influence may be even greater than mine. I've received news that they probably knew that Mr. Jenkins was investigating the formula issue and planned to target the few babies who were hospitalized with similar symptoms. So, I had to make the first move, acting as kidnappers to deceive them and making them think that Mr. Jenkins had too many enemies, which would make them relax their guard. I didn't expect you to be so vigilant and skilled. Not only did you hide your baby, but you also risked yourself to probe the truth on my side."
She surveyed his mansion again, not blindly trusting his words.
"Your baby is only four months old and can't stand the smell of tobacco and alcohol, yet you're smoking a cigar in front of me. Moreover, I smelled tobacco as soon as I entered, indicating that you've smoked more than one."
Sheena smirked and added, "If you want to trick me using this method and gain my trust, shouldn't you handle the details better?"
Miguel was tapping his partially smoked cigar into the ashtray, and he froze upon hearing Sheena's words.
He immediately extinguished the expensive brown cigar, not feeling bad about wasting it at all.
