Amelia wondered if she had imagined it all. Although she was feeling upset, she feared that Eli could tell something was amiss. Hence, she intentionally went to the washroom to rinse her face and calm herself.
She pondered about it. Gideon was the scion of the Everett family. If he could still remain a bachelor at the age of 38 for so long, it seemed true that he was adamant about not getting married. Why would he get together with her just because of Eli?
If Gideon really liked Amelia, he wouldn't have rejected her 12 years ago. Upon realizing that, Amelia's heart sank again. She felt more upset than ever.
But no matter how disappointed she was, Amelia had to boost her spirits. She began helping Eli pack up his things so that they could leave the hospital.
"Mom, is Mr. Everett coming over today?" Eli asked as soon as they finished packing. Clearly, he was also waiting for Gideon to drop by.
"He isn't free today, so he won't be dropping by. Let's go," Amelia replied.
Eli hummed in response. Disappointment was clearly written all over his face.
When they left the ward, Amelia's phone emitted a notification. She checked her phone and saw another text from Gideon, "I've returned to Norburgh. Next time."
The disappointment Amelia felt earlier was replaced by a sliver of hope as soon as she read his explanation. She immediately replied, "That's so sudden. I thought you were still in Jedburgh."
Gideon: "Something came up at the office, so I went back. Once I'm done, I'll visit you two at Jedburgh."
Amelia couldn't help but smile at Gideon's promise to return. Ten minutes was all it took for her emotions to go through a roller coaster.
Amelia: "Sure."
Seeing Amelia smile made Eli ask, "What's going on?"
"Mr. Everett is busy, so he can't be here. He'll visit us for dinner next time," Amelia explained.
Eli's eyes lit up upon hearing that. "Really?"
Dora thought otherwise. "The distance we walk from the classroom to the school entrance is also considered going home together once school's done for the day."
Her response left Eli completely speechless. He didn't understand how her mind worked. How could that be going home together after school?"
"Okay?" Dora asked after not hearing an answer from him. Her large eyes were fixed on him, filled with hope. It was hard for Eli to reject her.
He could only say, "Whatever you say."
"Awesome! That sounds good!" Dora cheered before taking the chance to add more requests, "In the future, you should wait for me outside my classroom after school, and we'll go home together!
"In the morning, no matter who arrives first, the person will have to wait at the school entrance for the other. We'll go to our classrooms together. That's considered going to school together."
Eli was speechless. All that sounded like a chore to him. He suddenly regretted agreeing to her request so easily.
