“It’s just a little snack, it won’t hurt.” Madeline’s smile strained as the picked up a packet of cute animal–shaped cookies–Jacob’s former favorite,
She had paid an outrageous price for these imported snacks. She even winced when swiping her card, yet Jacob remained unmoved.
As Madeline offered the packet with a warm smile, she even showed him the blisters on her hand from frying chicken, “See how hard I cooked for you? Jake, just eat a bit, okay?”
“Thank you. Maddie, L. Jacob wanted to try one, but he remembered that Jessica would be coming home soon. He didn’t want to upset her again and
have her leave.
His gaze darted between the snacks and the staircase, ignoring the blisters on Madeline’s hand. “Thave homework.” He bolted upstairs before temptation could weaken his resolve.
Madeline stood frozen in place. The lavish spread of snacks now felt like a slap across her face.
“Oh, I should bring fruit up to Jacob, Sylvie renaked, throwing Madeline a disdainful glance on her way upstairs with a plate of fruit.
Sylvie thought, This cheap mistress thinks she can replace Mrs. Atkinson Nice try
She rolled her eyes at Madeline.t
Madeline’s nails dug crescent moons into her palms. Her face burned with humiliation. She thought, “That maid dared humiliate me
“Clover play, Jessica Madeline seethed. “You must’ve threatened Jacob not to get close to me.”
She thought. ‘Brian acted normal. He even reassured me that Jacob was just stressed with studying
Jacob is only six! How could he resist games and snacks unless someone had scared him into saying no?
Jessica acted like she didn’t care about Brian or Jacob, but she must have been feeding Jacob ideas, turning him against me,
“What a clever move. That scheming bitch played the victim and brought up divorce first, and now Brian doesn’t even want to let go.
“Jacob used to adore me, yet he is constantly talking about Jessica now!
“You are something, Jessica. I’m no match for you at scheme.” Glancing at these pricey snacks, Madeline regained her composure. Anyway, she couldn’t let her money down the drain.

But tonight, things didn’t go as she expected.
At 6:30p.m., Sylvie came upstairs to call Jacob down for dinner and told him that Brian wouldn’t be home for dinner tonight.
Jacob’s shoulders slumped. “Dad won’t come back. I’ll eat alone again.”
“I’ll keep you company,” Madeline smiled.
Jacob glanced at her and nodded. He used to like spending time with her. Now they were completely alone in the villa, and no one would stop them from playing around, yet he didn’t feel like having fun at all.
When they got downstairs, Madeline froze at the sight of the cleared table. Hepwofce rose slightly as she turned to Sylvie. “Where are the snacks I bought
for Jake?”

Sylvie gave her a smug smile and started serving food to Jacobs
Sta fuming, Madeline tried to sit down and join them, only to realize there was only one set of tableware,
“Oh, you’re going to stay for dinner? Sylvie asked with exaggerated surprise. “You didn’t mention it earlier, so only made enough for Jacob. I thought you were already filled up on those… Uh, fried chicken”
Madeline’s chest heaved with suppressed rape. She thought. A mere servant, hired by Jessica, dares humiliate me? Without Jessica pulling the strings. how dare a servant speak to me like this?‘
Madeline added another mental strike against Jessica and thought, “Once I marry Brian, I swear Sylvie won’t last a day in the services industry
With that thought, Madeline shot a venomous glance at Jacob, silently cursing the ungrateful brat for not speaking up in her defense.
Jacob, oblivious to the undercurrents, ate sales
Outside Grant Group, Brian, supposedly working overtime, sat alone in his car. He kept checking his watch,
As time ticked by, he grew impatient. He thought, “It’s getting close to nine, and Jessica hasn’t left yet? She’s pregnant, but she’s still working at this ungodly hour”
Earlier today, Brian had asked Jackson to track Jessica’s schedule. From eight in the morning, she had been running between meetings and client visits
