Even though she knew it was something Madeline had planted in his head, it still broke her heart.
Gabriela couldn’t tell if Jessica really meant it or if she was just too upset, so she tried to console her, saying, “He’s still the child you carried for nine months, the one you raised with everything you had for six years.
“Don’t let it get to the point where you can’t go back. What if one day you regret it—”
“Yeah, I raised him for six years with my whole heart.” Jessica’s voice caught in her throat. Six years of memories flooded her mind like a reel on fast–forward.
From the days Jacob first babbled to when he called her “Mom“, nestled in her arms, planting kisses on her cheek and declaring she was his favorite person in the world–it all played out clearly in her mind.
A tear slid from the corner of Jessica’s eye, disappearing quickly into the collar of her shirt. “I raised him for six years, only for him to want someone else to be his mom. I already regret it.”

Jacob wanted to say he was just too angry and upset. That was why he lost control and threw all that stuff–he never meant to hurt her. But facing
Jacob thought, ‘Dad definitely thinks I’m a bad boy. Mom told me to get out and asked Dad to take me away. It’s obvious she doesn’t want me anymore. I threw something at her just to throw a tantrum.‘
“Dad, can you go make her come back? Please? I’ll be good from now on, I promise. I’ll do my math drills too, no more slacking,” Jacob cried, tugging hard at Brian’s sleeve, begging him to bring Jessica home.
Jacob had cried so long that his voice was hoarse, and he was still sick.
“Okay, then call her now. Tell Mom to come home.” Jacob choked out.
Brian stepped a few feet away, turned to the side, and kept one eye on Jacob as he dialed Jessica’s number.
Jessica was still in the car on the way to the hospital. When she saw Brian calling, she hesitated, then picked up.
