Chapter 307
Chapter 307
“Sana, what’s going on between me and Brian is our business. I don’t want you getting dragged into it.”
“Too late. We’re best friends. That makes it my business too. And guys like him? They deserve all the hate in the world.”
Jessica glanced at her friend, a little puzzled by the sheer vehemence in her voice. She wasn’t sure why Sana hated Brian so much.
Suddenly, she remembered something.
“By the way, did you find anything about Madeline’s background?”
Sana perked up immediately. “I did. I was just about to tell you.”
The elevator dinged and the doors slid open.
Jessica walked out first, heading straight toward her office. This was something she needed to hear in full.
Jacob sat on the hospital bed, his bags packed and boredom settling in as he waited.
Stella glanced from her grandson to the clock, a note of impatience creeping into her voice.
“What’s going on? Look at the time. Your dad still hasn’t shown up?”
Jessica’s refusal to come was disappointing enough, but Brian’s delay was beginning to feel like a personal slight to Jacob.
Stella’s frustration grew with every passing minute.
She thought to herself, ‘It hasn’t even been that long, and he’s already letting us down?‘
Jacob caught her irritation and quickly apologized. “Grandma, I’m sorry you’ve had to wait so long. Should I call Dad and see where he is?”

Stella waved him off with a tight smile. “No need to call, and it’s not your fault. I’m almost curious to see how late he’ll actually be today.” Her tone was cold, almost resigned.
She felt a strange relief that Jessica hadn’t shown up; otherwise, the, situation would surely have escalated.
Jacob wanted to defend his father but found no words. At that moment, the door opened gently, and a familiar figure appeared.
“Jake, are you leaving today?” The little girl from the next room stepped inside.
“Yes. And here, I have a farewell gift for you.” Jacob hurried to hand over the present he had brought with him long ago.
Wanda took it and said softly, “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome,” Jacob said, scratching the back of his head shyly.
Suddenly, Wanda looked up at him and asked, “Are you sad because your mom and dad didn’t come?”
Jacob froze, and Stella shot him a worried glance, then looked at Wanda, surprised by the little girl’s straightforwardness.
Wanda reached out to hold Jacob’s hand and said with bright eyes, “Don’t be sad. Moms and dads are grown–ups with their own lives. Sometimes, they have things to handle on their own.
“We shouldn’t hold them back. Instead, we should try to bring them happiness.”
Jacob was taken aback. “Wanda, who taught you to say something like that?”
