Chapter 301
Gabriela gave a low chuckle. “Yeah, I get it. Making money’s great and all, but not if the price is being stalked by your ex. No thanks.”
“Jessi, you have to be careful not to fall for Brian’s new tricks, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s trying to use public opinion to pressure you into giving in The guy’s get a deep, calculating streak. Honestly, it’s better if you keep your distance.”
Jessica looked up calmly and replied, “I honestly think this time it was just a mistake.”
Gabriela stared at her, surprised. “Wait, are you actually defending him?”
Jessica shrugged with a hint of weariness. “Not defending. Just stating the facts.”
Gabriela wasn’t convinced. “There’s no way it was an accident. If it really was, then Brian’s luck is something else. You don’t even realize how much Atkinson Group’s stock has soared since all this started.
“They’ve made a fortune off this hype. Other companies are practically green with envy.”
As Gabriela spoke, her suspicion grew that this whole viral incident had been carefully orchestrated. It just didn’t make sense otherwise.
Jessica shook her head softly. “Or maybe he’s just lucky. Anyway, let’s not dwell on him. We have bigger things to focus on. Inkspire Studio is on the rise, and when opportunities come, we have to seize them.
“These projects are worth taking on, and if better ones come along, we’ll consider those too.”
Gabriela glanced over the projects Jessica had highlighted, her concern clear. “But these clients all want you personally involved. If you take every single one, how will you keep up?”
Jessica’s tone was firm. “No matter how busy I get, I’ll make it work. Inkspire Studio is our creation, our passion. If there’s a chance to grow it, I can’t afford to miss it.”
Gabriela was about to argue but stopped when Jessica raised a hand.
“Don’t worry. I know my limits. If I need rest, I’ll take it. I’m not risking my health.”
Gabriela gave a half–smile, half–grimace. “I hope you really know your limits.”
Jessica smiled back and was about to return to discussing the project plans when Gabriela brought up another topic.
“By the way, what’s your plan for the buzz online? Just ignoring it?”
Jessica shrugged lazily. “What else? I’m not going to waste time responding to a circus.”
Gabriela’s eyes widened. “But if you stay silent, people will start believing you and Brian are still this perfect couple.”
Jessica’s voice held a trace of indifference. “And? What people think online doesn’t change my reality. I’ve got more important things to deal with.”
Her life was already complicated enough without adding more drama.
“How could it not matter? The whole internet’s buzzing about you and Brian being some kind of golden couple. How are you supposed to meet anyone* new like that?” Gabriela exclaimed without thinking.
Jessica chuckled softly, resting a hand on her belly. “Look at me. Who’s going to come near me right now? And honestly, I’m not even thinking about relationships these days. Stop worrying about me.”
What Jessica really wanted now was to work hard and build a stable foundation for the twins she was carrying.
She couldn’t accept the idea of her children entering the world into a life of compromise.
