They Want Me Back When It's Too Late (Jessica and Brian) novel Chapter 253

Chapter 253

Hearing even louder crying from the hospital room, Jim hurriedly pushed the door open. Mr. Atkinson, what’s wrong? I’ll call the doctor right away? He helped Jacob lie down and then went to fetch the doctor.

No, noI just feel sad. I miss MomJacob sobbed indistinctly.

Jim grew more anxious at this. If Jacob was physically unwell, he could call a doctor, but even Brian couldn’t get Jessica to come here, let alone a mere employee like him.

Jim could only gently pat Jacob’s back, offering silent comfort. Fortunately, Jacob stopped crying on his own after a while.

Sorry, Jim, for making you worry,Jacob sniffled, apologizing to Jim once the tears subsided.

Jim said in surprise, Oh, it’s nothing. Mr. Atkinson, you don’t have toI was sent here by Mr. Atkinson to take care of you.

He quickly fetched water to wash Jacob’s face, only to be startled again by the boy’s sudden obedience.

Thank you, Jim. Hand me the handkerchiefI can do it myself,Jacob said.

Seeing Jacob smiling and thanking him, Jim wondered if the boy had gone into shock from grief.

Jacob had been wellbehaved before, but he rarely thanked Jim or let the servants wash his face for him. This sudden politeness was deeply unsettling.

Though stunned, Jim handed over the handkerchief. Jacob quickly wiped his face, returned the cloth, and thanked him again.

Jim was thoroughly thrown off balance by Jacob’s demeanor. After the boy lay down, Jim immediately went outside to report the situation to Brian, who decided to visit the hospital as soon as he finished work.

That evening, Jessica, who had left early again to avoid Brian, felt a flutter in her stomach as soon as she got home. She instinctively placed a hand on her belly, thinking with surprise, Is this fetal movement?

She kept her hand there, concentrating for two minutes, and became increasingly certain.

This wasn’t her first pregnancy. During a recent checkup, the doctor had said she was nearly three months along and might feel the babies moving soon.

At the time, Jessica had been puzzledthis was much earlier than her first pregnancy. The doctor explained that having carried a child before thinned her abdominal wall, and with twins, she would feel babies moving earlier than before.

Relaxing, she focused on the rhythmic movements under her skin, as if the twins were taking turns greeting her.

Brian, come listen-Jessica blurted out, then froze, realizing what she’d said. The apartment was empty except for her.

She didn’t understand what she’d been expecting. The moment she remembered they were divorced, a wave of breathlessness hit her.

She clutched a pillow weakly, gasping for air. The increasingly labored breathing made her grasp her throat, no longer able to dwell on the past. She struggled to inhale.

One thought dominatedshe had to protect her children. Jessica took a shuddering breath, grabbed her phone, and tried to standonly to feel dizzy and sink back onto the sofa, afraid to move,

Clutching the pillow, she forced herself to recall the calm breathing techniques she’d learned, slowly regulating her breath. After what felt like ages, it

worked.

Jessica, lips purple, let out a long breath and leaned back, her forehead damp with sweat and her face pallid.

Even after recovering, she panted heavily for several moments, like a drowning person surfacing for air.

Chapter 253

Once her breathing steadied, she immediately placed a hand on her belly. The familiar flutters helped her heartbeat calm.

She couldn’t fathom what had just happened. With Jacob, she’d never experienced this.

Frowning, she recalled no such breathlessness in her first pregnancy. Worried about hidden illnesses affecting the babies, she hailed a taxi to the hospital.

As she stepped outside, another wave of breathlessness hit, and she braced against a wall until it passed. Her face remained pale as paper.

At the gate, a security guard asked if she needed help. Thanking him, she walked slowly out and headed straight for the hospital. A bodyguard watching from outside the compound lowered his binoculars and called his employer.
