“I love everything you buy,” Jacob nodded quickly, afraid Dereck and Stella might misunderstand.

“I’m glad you like them. Were you memorizing a text earlier? So hardworking,” Stella said.

Jacob shyly pursed his lips. “I want to get good grades in the new semester, so Mom will be happy then.”

Stella said emotionally, “Good boy, but you can’t rush learning. The most important thing now is to rest and get better.”

Dereck feared Jacob would start clamoring to see Jessica again, so he quickly changed the subject.

“I know. I’ve been taking medicine properly recently and will get better soon,” Jacob nodded repeatedly.

When he recovered, he could go find Jessica. Since she wouldn’t come to see him, Jacob decided to come to her.

He must tell Jessica how much he’d missed her these days in the hospital. Hearing this, Dereck relaxed and actively picked up a toy to play with Jacob.

Jacob was thrilled with his new toys. Seeing his grandfather wanting to play with him, he was even happier and immediately started playing with Dereck.

in her room now.

Maybe he could take his toys to play with her. Two people together wouldn’t be boring.

Coincidentally, his IV drip had just finished. Jacob hugged his toys/and went next door.

The door to the adjacent room wasn’t fully closed, and he pushed it open gently. Wanda on the bed turned to look at him when she heard the noise.

Jacob immediately ran over with the toys, eyes full of expectation. “Do you want to play with toys?”

However, Wanda glanced at the toys in his hand and turned away. “I have toys, too,” she said.

Jacob wasn’t discouraged. He dragged a small stool and sat by her bed. “Then what haven’t you played with? I’ll ask my grandparents to buy it, and we can play together.”

Wanda instead asked, “Why do your grandparents buy you toys? Where are your parents?”

Jacob’s expression froze. Wanda sighed and said like an old lady, “You’re just like me.”

“What do you mean? Don’t your parents come to see you?” Jacob asked with sympathy. He felt sorry for Wanda–at least he had Brian.

“More or less. What about you? Why don’t they visit? Is it because of divorce too?” Wanda asked.

“Divorce? Your parents are divorced?” Jacob suddenly thought he understood something.

Wanda nodded and lowered her head, looking more depressed than before.

Jacob quickly tried to comfort her. “Don’t be sad. Even if they’re divorced, they’re still your parents, just like my dad still loves me as always

Jessica no longer loved him because he’d been too willful and hurt her before. It wasn’t Jessica’s fault.

“That’s because your dad hasn’t married a new mom yet,” Wanda blurted out.

Jacob was stunned. Wanda turned away and refused to talk to him.

Before Jacob could ask what she meant, the ward door opened, and a nurse came in with medicine.

“Wanda, it’s time to take your medicine. Jacob? When did you come here? It’s nap time now.” The nurse put down the medicine and prepared to send Jacob back next door.

Jacob immediately said obediently, “I was too bored alone and wanted to play with Wanda. Since she needs to take medicine, I won’t disturb her

anymore.”

He waved at Wanda. “I’ll go back now, Wanda. I’ll come to play with you again this afternoon.”

Wanda nodded listlessly and took her medicine.

Jacob didn’t bother her further, gently closing the door as he left.

Just then, Jim, looking anxious, was searching for Jacob. When he saw him, he ran over and said, “Mr. Atkinson, where did you go? I’m scared to death!”
