Chapter 249
Chapter 249
“Cancel it. You stay in the apartment these days and don’t go anywhere.” Madeline hung up the phone after speaking, then walked to the window with a cold face and looked gloomily at the Atkinson Group building not far away.
The moment she’d said she was going abroad, she’d expected Brian would likely send someone to spy on her. But when she confirmed it was true, she
still felt defeated.
After realizing Brian truly didn’t trust her at all, Madeline decided to execute her plan without a shred of guilt.
She looked around the simple one–bedroom apartment she was renting with dissatisfaction. She didn’t have much money now, so she could only stay here temporarily.
Right after being exposed by Brian, she’d sold her house first, used the money to hire a woman who looked five or six points like her to go abroad in her place, and accepted whatever surveillance Brian might have.
Madeline herself used the remaining money to rent an apartment next to Atkinson Group.
To avoid arousing Brian’s suspicion, she’d been having her stand–in randomly apply to companies abroad to create a trail of her living normally overseas.
Until today, she’d been glad that Brian hadn’t sent spies or had already withdrawn them.
But when the stand–in told her she’d passed the job interview today, Madeline instantly knew Brian was still watching her and was willing to do anything to keep her abroad.
“Do you really want to never see me again? Too bad, I’m not going to let you have your way,” Madeline murmured and stared at the balance in her phone, her eyes turning vicious.
She was now renting places both at home and abroad, paying the stand–in salary and living expenses, and her family kept asking her for money. If she didn’t get a job soon, she’d really go bankrupt.
Madeline had to find a way to make Brian and Jessica completely break up so she could have a chance to win Brian’s heart.
The next day, Madeline went to the Grant Group building in disguise, just in time to see Brian delivering breakfast to Jessica while Jessica ignored him completely. Madeline’s eyes widened with jealousy.
Jessica was pressing the elevator button when she suddenly felt a strong sense of being watched. She couldn’t help but look back to find the person spying on her.
“Jessi.” Brian, who’d been chasing after her, thought she’d changed her mind and quickly held out the food.
“Stay out of my way.” Jessica pushed him away impatiently and kept looking back, but saw nothing.
Brian finally realized something was wrong. He turned to look too, then asked worriedly, “Jessi, what are you looking for?”
