“She’s been arriving late and leaving early at work? Why didn’t you tell me?” Stella glared at Dereck angrily.

Dereck said helplessly, “I was afraid you’d worry.”

“Hiding it from me won’t help.” Stella glared at him, then sighed again. “What can we do to help Jessi? Maybe I should just move in with her.”

Stella had mentioned several times asking Jessica to move back home, but she always refused, insisting she was fine living alone. To avoid upsetting Jessica, Stella had dropped the idea.

“That’s not a bad idea. Ask her tomorrow. If Jessi agrees, I’ll help you move in,” Dereck said. Though he hated to part with Stella, Jessica’s health was now their top priority.

“Okay.” Stella nodded. They were about to go downstairs for dinner when they were told Brian had come again.

“Should we bring Mr. Atkinson in?” the maid asked.

“No, I’ll deal with him,” Stella said, shaking her head, then walked to the door.

When Brian saw Stella, he asked, “Stella, is Jessi here?” He held a gift in one hand and homemade food in the other.

He hadn’t seen Jessica at Grant Group for days, and the driver he’d assigned to serve her 24/7 had been sent back with a warning never to send anyone to take care of her again.

Brian had no choice but to recall the driver, making it even harder to get updates on Jessica. Finally, he’d spent the entire afternoon preparing meals and rushed to Grant Group near dinnertime.

Stella sighed inwardly at Brian’s expectant look and shook her head. “Unfortunately, Jessi went out for dinner with friends.”

Brian’s eyes instantly dimmed. “Oh, I see.”

“Dereck and I are also going out, so we can’t invite you in,” Stella said.

Her words meant Brian had no chance of going inside today. “Alright. Please give these to Jessi. If possible, could you persuade her to talk to me?”

Brian was sure a new problem had arisen between them, but he had no idea what it was. Now he could only hope Jessica would be willing to open up.

Stella nodded. “I’ll tell her when she gets back, but I can’t promise she’ll agree to meet you.” She didn’t mind passing on the message, but she wouldn’t pressure Jessica.

“Thank you, Stella,” Brian said sincerely.

“Since you and Jessi are divorced, please call me Mrs. Grant,” Stella said.

Brian’s expression stiffened. He wanted to explain but didn’t know what to say. Every word Stella said was true.

“Thank you, Mrs. Grant,” Brian finally conceded. His whole demeanor seemed more haggard after saying this.

Stella sighed but didn’t soften. No matter how well Brian acted now, he’d deeply hurt her daughter in the past–a fact that couldn’t be erased.

“Okay, bye. You should head home early and spend time with Jacob,” she said finally.

“Okay.” Brian nodded and watched her enter the house, but instead of leaving, he drove to wait outside the community.

Two hours later, he still hadn’t seen any familiar vehicles come or go. He was almost certain Stella had lied. Otherwise, Jessica wouldn’t be unavailable

twice in a row.

He stared sadly at the distant villa and thought, Jessi, do you hate seeing me that much?

The next day, Stella brought Brian’s gifts to Jessica. Jessica recognized they were from Brian and asked for confirmation.

“Yes, Brian also wants to talk to you. Jessi, did something happen between you two recently?” Stella tentatively asked.

Jessica said coldly, “No. There’s nothing to talk about. If he sends anything again, please refuse it at once.”

Brian was probably still thinking about the hotel incident with Madeline. Just the thought of it made Jessica feel sick.

Stella looked at Jessica’s clearly unhappy expression and thought, ‘I really don’t think so,‘

“Mom, is there something else?” Jessica changed the subject, unwilling to discuss Brian.

“Oh, yes. Are you really unwilling to move back and live with us?” Stella brought up the topic again.

“Really, I’m fine here. Mom, don’t worry about me,” Jessica said, sounding annoyed at the repeated question.

She wished she could stay with her parents, but her mental state wouldn’t allow it. To avoid worrying them more, she had to keep her distance.

Stella wasn’t disappointed by the refusal. She smiled and said, “Alright, if you won’t move back, then I’ll move in with you. You can’t refuse that, can you?”

“Absolutely out of the question!” Jessica raised her voice abruptly. Having Stella move in would be no different from living at Grant Manor.

Stella’s face fell. “Why? Don’t you want me around?”
