They Want Me Back When It's Too Late (Jessica and Brian) novel Chapter 230

Chapter 230

Chapter 230

In the underground parking lot of Grant Group, Jessica parked and opened her car door, only to lock eyes with Brian’s concerned gaze.

Morning, Jessi. Did you sleep badly again?Clutching a breakfast bag, Brian frowned at the dark circles under her eyes.

He wondered. Has the Grant Group been that busy lately?

None of your business.Jessica looked away instantly, slamming the door and striding toward the elevator.

Wait, your breakfast,Brian called after her.

Jessica pretended not to hear, footsteps never faltering.

Brian got out of the car and chased her. Jessi, hold on.

They reached the elevator area. During the peak hour, there were many Grant Group employees. This scene drew curious stares from them.

Jessica stiffened, then turned around to glare at Brian. Don’t come here again.

Are you mad at me, Jessi?Brian hesitated, lifting the bag. Inside, it was the breakfast he had prepared for her.

Yes. So piss off right now.Jessica’s voice was icy.

But you haven’t had breakfast yet.Brian lifted the bag.

Jessica smacked the bag away. I already did. My family isn’t that broke. Stop bringing me food, ever.

The force would’ve sent it flying if Brian hadn’t tightened his grip.

Brian stared at her simmering anger, utterly lost. He couldn’t understand why Jessica had suddenly despised him so much that she lost her temper at the sight of him. He wracked his brain but couldn’t recall any recent missteps.

Jessica scoffed at his bewildered expression. She felt even less inclined to talk to him. Just then, the elevator arrived. She stepped in, ignoring the

curious onlookers.

Brian moved to follow but froze under her warning glare.

He thought, Fine. Jessi had breakfast. There’s no point making things worse.’ He forced himself to stay put, watching the doors close before walking

away.

Upstairs, Jessica stepped out of the elevator with a sullen face, her oppressive aura sending nearby employees scattering like startled birds.

She couldn’t care less about their whispers. Brian’s appearance had reopened the wound of betrayal. Sometimes, she thought he was ridiculoushaving already fallen for Madeline and even slept with her, yet still pretending to care for her.

Jessica thought bitterly, What does he take me for? Or maybeMaybe it’s never been about me at all but just the babies. Was I fooling myself all along?

Her hand drifted to her belly. She couldn’t help thinking, Was keeping them the right choice?

The moment the thought crossed her mind, she shook her head. She murmured, No. The children are innocent.

She thought, it’s not fair to blame them for whatever mess the adults made. I chose this. No regrets now.

Jessi, why’re you zoning out here?Sana’s voice startled Jessica from behind.

Chapter 230

Jessica blinked, realizing she had been standing frozen at her office door. Nothing. She shoved the turmoil down and strode inside

Sana stared at the closed door, brow furrowed. She thought, Wesley was right. Jessi’s condition is getting worse!

She had been observing for minutes. Multiple colleagues had passed in clacking heels, yet Jessica hadn’t even flinched.

Sana let out a long sigh. She thought, Jessi won’t talk. We’re helpless. Maybe Pancake can lift her spirits a little. But if this gloom keeps eating at her,

what are we supposed to do?

The worry coiled tighter, a knot with no end in sight.

Jessica watched as Pancake came trotting toward her at the sound of the door opening and suddenly remembered she had forgotten to take it home yesterday. I’m so sorry, Pancake.

Guilt twisted in her chest as she scooped the puppy up. She thought, How could I be so careless? I decided to keep it, then I should’ve been responsible

Pancake tilted its head, its big dark eyes glistening up at Jessica before it licked her hand gently as if to say, It’s okay.

The gesture melted Jessica’s heart. She nuzzled Pancake close, silently vowing not to forget it again this afternoon.

By afternoon, Jessica exhaled in relief as the clock finally struck quitting time.

She hadn’t overlooked Pancake this time. After packing her belongings, she gathered the pet supplies, balancing the puppy in one arm and a bulky tote in the other as she headed out.
