Chapter 214
“Why are you staring at me like that? Jessica finally snapped out of it, looked up, and raised an eyebrow when the noticed the serious look on Sana’s
face.
Sana hesitated for a moment, then asked gently, “Jessi, do you?
ou want to take some more time off? Things at the company aren’t that irgent right now.”
“No need, I’m fine,” Jessica replied without a second thought
She immediately turned to the document and pointed out the issues she had found.
Seeing Jessica immersed in work, Sana couldn’t say much, but afterward, she kept a closer eye on her in private
Unaware of Sana’s concem, Jessica simply carried on with her work as usual
Another wook flew by, and kindergarten let out for summer break
Jessica suddenly looked up from the latest proposal Sana had submitted.
“Could you prepare a gift on my behalf? Walt, never mind.”
Her voice trailed off
Sana looked at her curiously, then caught sight of the document out of the comer of her eye–it was a project celebrating the graduation of kindergarten children
A sudden realization dawned on her. She said, “Wait, isn’t Jake graduating from kindergarten and starting elementary school this year too!”
Then it dawned on her what Jessica had been about to say.
Sana asked, “Jessi, were you just about to ask me to help you get a graduation gift for Jake?”
“Well, on second thought, it’s hardly necessary. Brian will handle it for him,” she said coolly.
attempt to hide it
Caught in the act, Jessica made no attempt to
“How could it be unnecessary? His gift is his, yours is yours–they’re not mutually exclusive. And I’m certain Jake would prefer your gift over anything Brian could prepare,” Sana said immediately.
“But I just don’t feel like getting him anything anymore.” Jessica said coldly.
She had once put so much thought into all those gifts for Jacob, but they meant nothing compared to some random toy Madeline grabbed from a street vendor. Now that Brian and her were divorced, what was the point?
With
that thought, Jessica instantly
tly lost all desire to continue the conversation. She waved her hand dismissively and said, “You may go now. I’ll review
this proposal myself”
Sana was about to say something, but when she caught a glimpse of the hidden displeasure in Jessica’s eyes, she held back.
“Alright, Jessi, take your time reviewing it. The client has given us plenty of time, so there’s no need to rush,” she said gently.
With that, she poured a cup of water and placed it within easy reach, then quietly closed the door as she left.
Jessica stared at the now–empty office, a sudden wave of melancholy washing over her
‘Maybe Sana is right… but I just don’t want to Does that make me wrong? she wondered.
She was only trying not to repeat past mistakes. What was wrong with that?

Chapter 214
Jessica tightened her grip on the paper, unable to stop picturing Jacob’s tearful little face when she refused to accompany him on his first day of elementary school.
“He must resent me for that, right?” she thought, her heart sinking
Jessica thought gloomily, never expecting that as soon as she got home, she would see Jacob’s beaming face as he was led in by Brian.
