Chapter 198
Facing Gabriela’s taunting, Brian remained completely unfazed. After making sure she wasn’t going to do anything else, he went to fetch water for
Jessica.
“The temperature’s just right. Have some water–your lips are chapped,” Brian said, placing the glass within easy reach of Jessica.
Then he picked up an apple and began peeling it with practiced ease.
His fluid motions made it clear he’d done this many times before.
As Brian approached, Gabriela instinctively edged away.
“I’m not hungry right now. Could you give us a moment?”
Jessica, noticing Gabriela’s discomfort, gently asked Brian to leave.

Brian looked up, opened his mouth as if to say something, but stopped himself. In the end, he simply nodded, set down the half–peeled apple, and quietly left the room.
“So obedient? Did he get a personality transplant? Is this really the Brian I know?” Gabriela blurted out the moment Brian left.
No wonder she was so shocked. His transformation was downright unbelievable.
In the past, forget letting her scold or hit him; even if she just called Jessi, he’d throw out a sarcastic remark and find some excuse to send Jessi away.
“Trust me, you’re not the only one. I’m just as surprised,” Jessica admitted with a wry smile.
Before she left, it had never crossed her mind that Brian would go to such lengths to win her back.
Gabriela asked nervously, “So… have you softened toward him?”
“Of course not. I genuinely want a divorce. This isn’t some game of playing hard to get.”
Jessica chuckled lightly.
From the moment she walked out, she had already resolved to sever all ties with Brian for good.
“That’s good, I was just worried you’d go soft on him,” Gabriela said.
“Even if he seems like he’s changed now, who knows if it’s just an act to trick you into being his free maid again.
“Jessi, you gotta stay sharp.”
Gabriela let out a sigh of relief, then suddenly leaned in to check Jessica’s TV tube.
“Are you okay? Sorry about earlier. I got carried away and totally forgot you were still on an IV. But why was Brian the one changing it? Where’s the nurse?”
“No idea. Maybe he sent the nurse away,” Jessica replied, shaking her head.
Gabriela frowned. “Can he even do it? He didn’t hurt you, right? Though I have to admit, his technique looked pretty professional
Even with all her bias against Brian, Gabriela had to admit–he actually seemed to know what he was doing.
“He probably does. I didn’t feel a thing.” That was true. She didn’t even feel pain.
Jessica couldn’t help wondering where Brian had learned such skills in such a short time.

“That’s good. Who cares how he learned it? As long as he takes good care of you, that’s all that matters. After all those years you looked after him, it’s about time he returned the favor,” Gabriela said.
She felt relieved and quickly let it go.
