Chapter 180
With that, he tapped the steering wheel absently, pondering how to carefully bring up last night’s incident.
Jessica hadn’t been this distant before. She’d always accepted the meals he brought her. But last night…
Before Brian could figure out how to phrase it, Jessica had already gotten out of the car with the bag and headed off.
Brian reflexively reached for the car door, wanting to go after her, but he held himself back.
In the end, he could only watch her leave, letting out a deep, helpless sigh.
At Atkinson Group, as always, Madeline waited along Brian’s usual route. She had already braced herself to be ignored again. But to her surprise, this time, Brian actually stopped.
“Mr. Atkinson?” Madeline asked, her voice tinged with surprise.
Madeline exerted every ounce of self–control to keep the excitement from seeping into her voice.
She wondered, ‘Could it be that Mr. Atkinson has finally…”
Brian asked, “Have you been in touch with Jessi recently?”
Brian’s words instantly doused the fire in Madeline’s heart.
Jessica again!
Madeline replied carefully, “Just once before. It was about the Propian Group Project. There were some issues I didn’t understand, so I wanted to consult
her.
“But she said since she’d resigned, it wouldn’t be appropriate for her to get involved in company matters anymore, so I didn’t disturb her further. Has something happened?”
As Madeline spoke, she cautiously studied Brian’s expression, trying to gauge his reaction.
Brian frowned. “Just this one incident?”
Was Jessica taking it out on him just because Madeline bothered her with company matters?
“Yes, Mr. Atkinson, did I make a mistake? Ms. Grant used to mentor me, so when I ran into trouble, I just instinctively turned to her for help. It was thoughtless of me. Should I go and apologize to her right now?”
As she spoke, Madeline immediately reached for her phone.
Seeing her sincere demeanor, Brian started to wonder if he was just overthinking it.
“No need. But for any future questions, come directly to me. Jessi is expecting now, so please don’t disturb her,” he said.
Madeline showed no sign of happiness at these words. With her head lowered, she quietly replied, “Okay.” Then, she turned right around and called Jessica again.
“Jessi, I’ve taken care of the Propian Group Project. Actually, I owe it all to Mr. Atkinson’s guidance.”
Jessica asked coldly, “So, you called just to rub it in my face?”
Her voice was icy and indifferent.
“Of course not! I just wanted to let you know how much Mr. Atkinson truly cares about you.

Chapter 180
“As soon as I mentioned I’d asked you about this project before, Mr. Atkinson Immediately said you’re in a delicate condition and told me not to l you again. His thoughtfulness is truly enviable.”
Madeline let out a theatrical sigh.
“Oh, if only I could meet someone as perfect as Mr. Atkinson someday.”
“Come on, Jessi, why not just forgive Mr. Atkinson? He’s been obsessively studying cookbooks lately, all for you. Even as an outsider, it pains me to see how hard he’s trying.
“Even Jake is always thinking about you. The moment he hears about some delicacies, he rushes out to buy them, just so he can give them to you. Honestly, he’s so devoted it’s almost unbelievable.”
“Honestly, Jessi, with all this, I really don’t see what more you could possibly complain about.”
