They Want Me Back When It's Too Late (Jessica and Brian) novel Chapter 157

Chapter 157

Chapter 157

Jessica forced her polite smile, silently questioning herself, This doctor Sana recommendedis he even reliable?

Wesley paused midsip from his wine glass, apparently caught off guard by Jessica’s pregnancy.

Jessica had come straight from the office, dressed in a sharp business suit that screamed corporate powerhouse. Careerdriven city women like her rarely got pregnant during their prime working years.

Wesley poured himself some red wine and filled a simple glass of water for Jessica.

His tall, lean frame was draped in a white coat that gave him a gentle demeanor. His goldrimmed glasses added a scholarly touch, toning down what would otherwise be striking good looks.

Ms. Grant, what did you have for lunch?Wesley asked casually, already building a mental profile of Jessica. He studied her discreetly, taking in her fair complexion and delicate features. Her clothes and shoes were all designer brands.

She came from a reputable family, yet her eyes held a hint of sadness. Wesley wondered if it was relationship troubles.

Wesley’s observation was so subtle that Jessica didn’t feel violated.

Jessica felt slightly impatient. She didn’t have time for small talk, but she replied politely, Homecooked meals from my family. She leaned forward slightly, ready to make her excuses and leave.

Wesley noticed every micromovement. Jessica’s guard was up high.

Most people were naturally defensive around strangers. But this was

a

psychological clinic. He needed his patients to

him completely.

Does Ms. Grant like cats?Wesley asked abruptly, just as Jessica was looking for an excuse to leave. His sudden return to the topic of cats caught her off

guard.

I do like them, actually. It’s just that…” Jessica trailed off. She loved both cats and dogs. Growing up, her family had a tabby cat and a golden retriever. After the tabby ran away when she was five, she never got another cat.

When the golden retriever passed away from old age, Jessica was already in college and too busy to care for another pet.

Later, Brian turned out to be allergic to cat fur, so she gave up any thought of getting a cat.

As memories flooded back, Jessica recalled one particular year when a stray cat that looked remarkably like her old tabby had wandered into their yard.

Jacob had been fascinated, seeing a kitten for the first time, and begged to keep it. But just like Brian, he was allergic to cats.

That day, Jacob broke out in hives all over his body. Jessica rushed him to the hospital, and Brian arrived shortly after, with Madeline by his side.

Brian blamed her for not taking better care of Jacob,

hile Madeline tearfully cradled the boy in her arms.

Miserable from the itchy rash covering his body, little Jacob curled up in Madeline’s embrace, shooting Jessica accusing looks that seemed to echo Brian’s words about her failure as a mother.

Looking back, that incident seemed to mark the beginning of Jacob and Madeline growing closer.

Wesley appeared from somewhere carrying a Ragdoll cat. His long, slender fingers gently stroked the cat’s head while he watched Jessica’s expression as she drifted through her memories.

Her name is Tres. Would you like to hold her?Wesley moved closer with the cat. She’s had all her vaccinations and deworming treatments.
