Chapter 135
Briary’s voice es me from behind her, making Jessica pause mid–step.
Following the sound of footsteps, Brian walked up and wrapped his arms around her from beland.
He rested his chin gently on top of her head, rubbing softly. “Jessi, come back, please. if Jake did something wrong, Ell make him chânge. something wrong. I can change too.”
Jessica let Brian hold her from behind, her face slowing no cimation
From Inside the villa, Jacob’s playful laughter mixed with the hearty laughter of Stella and Deck drifted to their ears.
It was clear Stella and Dereck were thoroughly charmed by Jacobs, enjoying their time with Jacob
Brian leaned close to het ear, his breath warm against her skin, his voice coaxing “Jessi, for Jake’s sake, for our unborn child, we should give them a complete family, shouldn’t we?
Something Brian said must have hit a nerve. Without a word, she pulled Brian’s hand away from her arm. “Don’t tell me you didn’t get the court summons” Jessica glanced back at Brian, then walked into Grant Manor without hesitation
Brian stood there frowning. Still, he wasn’t discouraged. He hadn’t really expected a bowl of seafood porridge to win Jessica back anyway.
“Mommy!” in the living room, Jacob spotted Jessica first. He immediately abandoned Stella and Dereck and ran to greet Jessica
“Mommy, did you eat the porridge Daddy made?” Jacob looked up at Jessica expectantly. “Daddy only let me have one tiny taste.”
Jessica remained silent.
Jacob paused, then tried again to speak up for Brian. “Mommy, Daddy cut his hands badly while making it. There was so much blood. He’d seen it himself—Brian’s injured hands under the faucet, blood washing down the drain.
Jacob’s voice grew quieter and quieter until he fell completely silent. He couldn’t understand why Jessica had become so cold towards him.
Once Jacob stopped talking, Jessica finally greeted Stella and Dereck, who had followed them in. “Mom, I’m going upstairs to change without waiting for a response, she headed straight up.
The first thing Jessica always did after work was shower and change into comfortable clothes.
The sound of running water filled the bathroom as hot water poured into the tub. Jessica sank into it, exhaustion written across her face.
She let the water cover her face, and the suffocating sensation washed over her. Jessica kept her eyes tightly shut, holding herself under for nearly a minute before finally sitting up
The suffocating feeling pushed down the tears that threatened to spill over.
Memories of the past few years flooded back uncontrollably. She’d been a full–time mom to Jacob, only occasionally going to the office to help Brian with confidential matters.
During those years, Jessica cooked countless meals for Brian and Jacob. Her hands had gone from being constantly burned and cut to becoming skilled in the kitchen.
Brian and Jacob had taken her efforts for granted while entirely ignoring everything she did for them. In Jacob’s eyes, she was just a stay–at–home mom living off Brian’s money who was too strict with him.
When Jacob was four, he’d once noticed a bandage on Jessica’s finger. Curious, he’d peeled it off to see the cut underneath. He’d blown on it gently.
