When the two of them tried to walk away after their little jab, Penelope strode forward and blocked their path.
"Let's get something straight. Who are you calling a mistress?"
At her question, Rebecca immediately looked uneasy.
Susan, however, remained defiant. "You really want to hash this out here? Old classmates are walking past us. Aren't you afraid of embarrassing yourself?"
What did she have to be afraid of? But just as Penelope was about to speak, Rebecca cut in.
"Susan, don't you have to give a speech as the outstanding alumni representative? Shouldn't you be preparing?"
Susan's expression shifted from contempt to smugness.
"You're right. My time is precious. I can't waste it arguing with a shameless homewrecker."
With that, Susan walked off.
Penelope started to go after her, but Rebecca stopped her.
"You're curious why Susan and I are getting along, aren't you?"
Penelope paused. She was, in fact, a little curious.
Rebecca shrugged. "The Stone Group is looking to partner with the Zenith Group on their new shopping street project. Zebulon is actively trying to connect with the heir to the Zenith Group, and as his wife, the matriarch of the Stone Group, I naturally have to do everything I can to help."
Seeing Penelope's confusion, Rebecca scoffed.
"Susan works in the Zenith Group's project department, specifically in charge of the development and planning for that shopping street. If I can get on her good side, I can help Zebulon."
