The morning the PR statement was released, Danielle was jolted awake by a call from Kirsten Delaney.
Kirsten’s excited voice crackled over the phone.
“You have to look online! Gian is a miracle worker! He completely shut down all the rumors overnight!”
Danielle rubbed her tired eyes and unlocked her phone.
Trending on social media were hashtags like #Aerospace Engineer Danielle Rumors Debunked and #Raffy Not Danielle's Biological Son. The lengthy statement released by Gian’s team had been reposted by major media outlets. It included the paternity test report, Alexander’s original statement, and a scanned copy of the lawyer’s letter—a chain of evidence so complete it was irrefutable.
The comment sections, once filled with vitriol, were now flooded with apologies from netizens. The tide had completely turned. Some people even started digging into Lorie’s past actions, questioning if she was the one who started the rumors.
She scrolled to a message from Gian: “I’ve contacted mainstream media to follow up on the clarification. I’ve also had a word with the gossip blogs, so no one will be spreading nonsense anymore. Just focus on being with Niki.”
Danielle replied with a thank you. Just as she put her phone down, the doorbell rang.
When she opened it, she found the Aerospace Institute’s union chairman and the director’s assistant standing there, holding baskets of fruit and other gifts, their faces etched with apology.
“Chief Engineer Crawford, we are so sorry for what you’ve been through.”
“The Institute has believed in you from the very beginning. We only asked you to take a leave of absence to avoid the media storm, considering the social impact. Please don’t take it to heart.”
The union chairman handed her a formal letter of support, his tone sincere. “The board has already held a meeting. We’ve decided to issue an internal statement clarifying the false rumors about you. We will also be formally commending you for your contributions to the project over the years.”
“If anyone gives you any more trouble over this, the Institute will have your back.”
