Lorie never would have imagined that Danielle’s boyfriend was Gian Atwood.
Alexander’s hands tightened on the steering wheel, his knuckles turning white. He watched Gian’s arm wrapped so naturally around Danielle’s shoulders and saw the relaxed smile on her face. A sharp sting, like an insect bite, pierced through him. He had assumed Danielle was just making up an excuse, never thinking for a moment that she had actually found someone new. If it had been anyone else, he could have dismissed it as a lie. But Gian… Gian was a real possibility.
“Mr. Atwood?” Lorie forced herself to speak, her voice a tentative probe. “What are you doing here?”
Gian turned to look at the two people in the car, his gaze calm and unreadable, but his tone was laced with a cool distance. “I’m here to pick up my girlfriend from work. Is there a problem?”
His words were like a slap across Lorie’s face. She opened her mouth to say something more, but a sharp look from Alexander silenced her.
Alexander stared at Danielle, his lips moving as if to speak, but all that came out was, “Be careful on the road.” Then he started the engine and slowly drove away.
From the passenger seat, Lorie looked back to see Gian sheltering Danielle under his umbrella as they walked toward a black sedan parked nearby. “Alex, did you see that? Danielle’s boyfriend is Gian Atwood.”
Alexander stared straight ahead, his expression as dark as a thundercloud. He didn’t say a word. His mind was a tangled mess, replaying the image of Danielle and Gian standing together over and over—a picture so glaring it made it impossible for him to think straight.
“Take a look. I’ve already had my lawyer review this. It’s solid.” Gian pointed at the screen, his voice steady. “The paternity test was done internally by the Davidson family back then. Even though it was never made public, it’s legally valid. Releasing it now will completely debunk the claim that you abandoned your family.”
“Additionally, the lawyer has already contacted the media outlets that spread the rumors most aggressively, demanding they retract the false information and issue a public apology. If anyone continues to spread malicious lies after this, we’ll take legal action.”
Danielle leaned over to look at the screen, her fingers tracing over the familiar words and evidence. The weight on her chest began to lift. She hadn’t expected Gian to assemble everything so quickly, even bringing in a lawyer. His foresight and attention to detail were incredibly reassuring.
“But why are they so fixated on what happened with Raffy?” Danielle rubbed her throbbing temples, her voice laced with exhaustion. “Only the Davidsons and a few other people knew about that. It never should have been something to be dragged out and spread all over the internet.”
