The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 865

Alexander parked at the terminal entrance, got out to retrieve her suitcase, and then handed her an insulated bag from the back seat. “Some pastries you like. For the trip, in case you get hungry.”

Danielle took the bag. It was still warm. A lump formed in her throat, and her eyes stung. She looked up at him, wanting to say something, but the words wouldn’t come.

“You should go,” he said softly. “You don’t want to miss your flight.”

She nodded and walked into the terminal without looking back.

Once the plane was in the air, Danielle’s thoughts were a tangled mess. She couldn’t tell if the Alexander she had seen this morning was his true self or just a carefully constructed mask. He had always been an expert at hiding his emotions, a skill honed by years of surviving the oppressive atmosphere of the Davidson family. He could be weathering a storm inside and still present a front of perfect calm.

Leaning back in her seat, she closed her eyes, feeling lost. She had no idea how to move forward with him. They couldn’t be husband and wife; there were too many old wounds. They couldn’t be friends; his confession had made that impossible. But they couldn’t cut ties completely. He was Niki’s father.

“Ma’am, would you care for a drink?” a flight attendant asked.

Danielle shook her head and turned to look out the window. Maybe Rebecca was right. Letting him self-destruct, letting him be dragged down by his family’s toxic legacy—that would be the cruelest thing of all.
