The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 784

Ninesky Technologies.

The air conditioning hummed steadily in the office.

Danielle kept her eyes lowered, fingertips gliding over the stack of documents as she organized the last handover checklist and tucked it beneath a thick file folder.

On the corner of her desk, the calendar had a date circled in red—the day she and Niki would leave Northridge City. It was creeping closer with every passing hour.

“Still working?” Kirsten walked in with an iced coffee in hand, setting the cup gently by Danielle’s side. Her gaze drifted over the mountain of paperwork. “Ever since that summit, Alexander’s been a ghost. He hasn’t tried to reach you at all?”

Danielle picked up the coffee, taking a slow sip. The cold liquid slid down her throat, tamping down the strange ache that had been rising inside her.

She nodded. “He hasn’t called. Hasn’t shown up.”

Kirsten sank into the chair across from her, studying Danielle’s calm profile before pressing on, “What about Niki? Has the little one asked about her dad?”

“No.” Danielle’s fingers paused for a beat, and she thought of how Niki no longer clutched her old stuffed animal at bedtime, no longer snuck around looking for pictures of Alexander. A soft pang of tenderness welled up in her chest.

“Maybe, somehow, she just knows. Maybe she understands that this is best for everyone.”

Kirsten sighed, leaning forward, her voice tinged with concern. “Be honest, Danielle. After all those years, just ending it like this—are you really okay with it?”

“You gave up your chance to study abroad for him. Walked away from your career, your dreams. Then you raised Niki on your own all these years. Now it’s just over. Don’t you feel even a little regret?”

Danielle looked up, offering a quiet, wry smile. “I don’t dwell on the past, and I’m not afraid of what’s next. There’s nothing left to regret.”

She turned the coffee cup slowly in her hands, her tone even. “There’s too much history between Alexander and me. Too many things out of our control.”

“This distance, this silence between us—it’s probably the best ending we could hope for.”
