The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 774

Alexander didn’t even glance at Harold. He just tightened his grip on Danielle’s wrist and said quietly, “We’re leaving.”

Without another word—completely ignoring the dark looks from Harold and Nathan—he pulled Danielle out of the ballroom.

She stumbled along behind him, struggling to keep up, all too aware of the dozens of eyes burning into her back. Curiosity. Intrigue. Even a little ridicule. She could feel it all.

Danielle tried to wrench her arm free, but Alexander’s hold was ironclad. She barely made a dent.

“Alexander, let me go.”

They reached the corridor outside the party before Danielle finally couldn’t hold back her frustration. Her voice was sharp, edged with anger. “What are you trying to do?”

Alexander came to a stop, finally releasing her wrist, though his gaze lingered on the red marks his grip had left. A flicker of guilt crossed his face.

“I need to talk to you. About Niki. And about you leaving Northridge.”

Danielle rubbed her sore wrist and glared at him. “Whatever’s going on with Niki, or whether I decide to leave Northridge, it’s none of your business anymore.”

“Alexander, we’re divorced. If you have no intention of actually working things out, could you please stop interfering in my life?”

“None of my business?” He stepped closer, his dark eyes locked on hers, his voice low and deliberate.

“Niki is my daughter. If you’re planning to take her away, how could that possibly have nothing to do with me?”

Danielle’s jaw clenched. “I made up my mind to leave a long time ago. I can protect myself and Niki. We don’t need you.”

“You can protect yourselves?” Alexander’s gaze hardened. “Last time, when you had dinner with Harold and Nathan and someone drugged your drink—if I hadn’t gotten there in time, do you really think you’d be standing here right now?”

They’d talked about that night before. But now, divorced as they were, there was always a certain distance—a careful boundary—between them when it came to anything personal.
