The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 757

He knew everything.

Yet he had no choice but to pretend he didn’t—to act indifferent toward Danielle and her daughter, to feign a complete severance of ties, to pretend… he’d never loved her at all.

Only by doing so could he keep them safe, far away from lurking dangers. Only this way could they live out their days in peace.

After lunch, while the housekeeper cleared the plates and silverware, only Danielle and Alexander remained in the living room. A subtle, uneasy quiet hung between them, broken only by the occasional birdsong drifting in through the open window.

Danielle’s gaze fell on Alexander’s hands, resting atop his knees. Those hands had once been so steady—bold when signing documents, unflappable at the steering wheel, gentle yet strong when he’d cared for her during her illness, feeding her medicine, pulling the blanket over her. There had always been a reassuring strength in them.

But now, those hands could barely hold a fork.

Suddenly, the memory of the day they signed the divorce papers flashed before her.

It had been those same trembling hands that had scrawled his name across the agreement, the ink smudging as his grip faltered.

At the time, she’d told herself it was anger—his pride wounded, his fury at her asking for a divorce. But looking back now…

“Your hands,” Danielle broke the silence, her voice trembling just so, “they were shaking when you signed the divorce, too, weren’t they?”

He’d been injured—saving her.

Alexander stiffened almost imperceptibly. After a moment, he looked up at her, his eyes an unreadable mix of emotions. He held her gaze for a long moment before giving a slow, silent nod.

Danielle drew a shaky breath, trying to steady her swirling thoughts. She locked eyes with him. “So you always knew I wasn’t bluffing about wanting a divorce. You knew I was just lashing out, trying to provoke you, didn’t you?”

Alexander didn’t look away. There was exhaustion in his eyes, but also, strangely, a hint of relief. His answer was soft. “Yes.”
