The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 713

“Paula.” Danielle’s brow furrowed, her voice cool and even. “Today is Grandma’s funeral. I don’t want to argue with you.”

“Don’t want to argue?” Paula let out a sharp laugh, closing the gap between them in a few brisk steps. She raised her voice just enough so the people nearby could all hear. “Then why don’t you tell us what you’re doing here, Danielle? You’re a divorced woman—what business do you have showing up at the Davidsons’ house? Do you still think you’re the glorious Mrs. Alexander?”

Her eyes swept Danielle up and down, gaze dripping with disdain. “Now you’re some big shot scientist, a key player on the National Science Task Force? Is that it? You think you’re so impressive now, but you’re still trying to cling to the Davidsons? Is this the so-called integrity of you scientists? You cut ties with us, then scurry right back the moment you get a chance. Have you no shame?”

Low whispers rippled through the room. A few curious, judgmental stares landed on Danielle, sharp and unkind.

Danielle’s face turned cold. It wasn’t that she didn’t have a temper—she just didn’t want to lose her composure in front of her grandmother’s casket.

“I’m here to say goodbye to Grandma,” Danielle said, her voice calm but unwavering. “That’s not your business to question.”

“And who do you think you are?” Paula sneered. “If Grandma hadn’t protected you back then, do you think you’d have lasted a day in this family? Now that she’s gone, what right do you have to—”

“That’s enough.”

A deep, commanding male voice cut through the room, instantly silencing the chatter.

No one had noticed Alexander approaching, but there he stood, his expression dark as thunder, eyes cold as steel as he fixed Paula in place.

“Where are your manners?” His voice was low, but it carried a weight that made the entire foyer fall silent. “She’s the mother of my daughter. She’s my ex-wife. And she was one of Grandma’s most beloved grandchildren. Disrespecting her is disrespecting Grandma.”

Paula shrank back under his glare. She had never seen Alexander defend Danielle so openly before.

He’d always cared about appearances, but now, he didn’t even bother with that.

She forced herself to speak, though her voice trembled. “Alex, I just—”

Across the room, Nathan watched the scene unfold, a glass of water in his hand as he leaned against a column. He saw Alexander quietly take Danielle’s side, and a thoughtful look flickered in his eyes.

His younger brother had always been stubborn—caring deeply, but never willing to admit it.

“Let’s go. Niki’s still hurt.” Danielle snapped back to reality. She took her daughter’s hand, avoiding Alexander’s gaze as she led her towards the stairs.

The children’s room was spotless, sunlight filtering through the window and onto the carpet, chasing away some of the chill.

The family doctor was already inside, carefully checking the bandage on Niki’s arm.

“Mommy… why is Great-Grandma sleeping in that box?” Niki asked hesitantly after the doctor left, her big eyes brimming with confusion.
