The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 657

He was stunned by the gut-wrenching cries coming from inside.

“Is that really the same Millie as before? She sounds like a different person entirely.”

Gian spoke up. “She used to be so proud, always in control of her emotions. Now she’s completely falling apart. What did you talk to her about?”

Some people, he thought, really are shadows of who they once were. The more dazzling their past, the harsher their current downfall.

It was as if Millie had become an entirely new person.

Danielle glanced at Gian. “She used to have everything, and now she’s lost it all. Of course she’s struggling with the contrast. Still, I’m surprised she even cares about her son at all.”

She looked out at the distant sky and took a deep breath.

“Or maybe it isn’t really about her son. Maybe all she cares about is whether she’ll be able to claw her way back up when she gets out of prison.”

“She’s just putting all her chips on Raffy now. That’s why she begged me to take care of him.”

If Raffy did well, then when Millie was released, she’d have someone on the outside to help her. She wouldn’t have to start from nothing.

Gian frowned. “That’s some plan she’s cooked up.”

He studied Danielle’s face. Her expression was calm, as if none of this really touched her.

The truth was, Danielle had been through enough to know that emotions solved nothing.

“What about you?” Gian asked. “Why did you agree to raise her son in the first place?”

Danielle shook her head. “I didn’t even know Raffy was Millie’s child at first.”

“Alexander and Alistair were closer than brothers. When Alistair died saving Alexander, Raffy was left as Alistair’s only child in the world. So I agreed with Alexander—we adopted Raffy. I’ve always treated him as my own.”

Gian frowned in concern.

“You two have such a complicated relationship, and barely communicate… How could things not go wrong?”

Danielle massaged her temples, feeling a headache coming on.

She’d known for a long time that their marriage was in trouble.

Their first year together, they could talk about anything. Everything felt easy.

To this day, she still didn’t know when things started to fall apart.

Maybe he just fell out of love.

Maybe he’d always had someone else in his heart—someone he truly loved.
