The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 636

She fixed Nathan with a hard stare. “You’d better be telling the truth and not just feeding me excuses to get me off your back. If I ever find out you really plan on marrying that woman, you can forget about having me as your mother.”

Her words were sharp, her tone even sharper.

Even now, when she’d lost so much, she still clung fiercely to her principles.

Nathan had always been calculating, steady, and in control since he was a boy—never letting his emotions get the best of him. He was just as unyielding when it came to his own future; whether it was a marriage arranged for him or anything else, he refused to be pushed around.

Looking at him now, it was obvious his heart already belonged to someone else. He had no intention of settling down—not when there was another woman on his mind.

“You’re overthinking this, Mother.”

She frowned, not letting up. “And why didn’t you tell me about taking the job at Vanguard Technologies? Why didn’t you talk it over with me first?”

Nathan looked up, meeting her eyes. “Mom, I have my reasons for handling things the way I do. If I’d come back and joined The Davidson Group straightaway, it would have been too obvious what I was after.”

“If we tip them off, it might do more harm than good.”

She narrowed her eyes. “And you think joining Vanguard Technologies means Alexander won’t suspect you? He wanted to hand the company over to you as soon as you got back. Why didn’t you take it?”

“Mom.” Nathan closed his laptop and looked at her, his expression serious. “Do you still see him as the naïve kid he used to be?”

“He’s not that innocent little boy anymore. He’s grown up, and he can’t be manipulated so easily.”

“I’ve seen firsthand what he’s capable of. If he hands me The Davidson Group, how can I be sure he’s not setting me up? What if he’s giving me a poisoned chalice? I’m not about to accept anything from the Davidson family until I know exactly what I’m dealing with.”

Alexander was as cunning and calculating as they came. Anything he offered up, nobody in their right mind would take without thinking twice.

“All this talk of strategy and planning—it’s just an excuse. The truth is, you want to marry her.”

Nathan’s tone turned icy. “Mother, I’d appreciate it if you’d stay out of my private life.”

He clearly didn’t want to discuss it any further, and she could sense it.

She let it go, only sighing deeply. “If you’re so sure of yourself, I won’t interfere. But I hope you’ll talk to me about things in the future. Like when you got hurt and spent all that time in the hospital—I had no idea. You’re my only son. Do you have any idea how much I worry about you?”

“I understand,” he said quietly.

She looked at him, as if wanting to say something more, but hesitated. After a long silence, she finally spoke.

“You can plot and scheme all you want, but don’t let yourself get caught in your own web. Your safety is what matters most. I only have you in this world. Please, don’t do anything reckless.”
