The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 628

Alexander regarded her in silence for two or three seconds, his gaze cool and unreadable. Suddenly, a wry smile flickered across his face.

“A threat? Since when did prying into someone’s private life become part of a medical consultation?”

He looked straight at Rebecca. “I’ll only accept things on my own terms.”

“You know as well as I do—there are plenty of doctors in this world.”

With that, he turned on his heel, intent on leaving.

Rebecca gave a cold, derisive laugh. “Sure, there are plenty of doctors. You won’t miss me. But shields aren’t so easy to come by.”

Her words made him stop dead in his tracks.

Rebecca continued, “When it comes to certain things, your pride is worthless. Your dignity means even less.”

Alexander’s eyes turned icy as he stared at her, saying nothing.

After Danielle left, she sat in her car, staring straight ahead.

The conversation in the underground parking garage kept replaying in her mind.

Alexander was nothing like she’d expected—not like the man she’d heard about, and nothing like the person he showed the world.

Somehow, everything seemed to circle back to the Davidson family, no matter how she turned it over in her mind.

There are times when you just have to make a clean break. Otherwise, the knots only tighten.

She took a deep breath.

The next day.

Danielle talked over the details of a partnership with Gian, then headed to Blackwood Research Institute, where the government project was moving forward.

Mr. Hawthorne greeted her as she arrived.

“You’re always so busy these days—it’s almost impossible to get a moment with you.”

He smiled. “You’ve become one of the most sought-after people in the field. If you’d been building your career here from the start, your position would be even higher now.”

He couldn’t quite hide the regret in his voice as he brought up Danielle’s decision years ago to leave her studies and career behind for marriage.

Mr. Hawthorne nodded thoughtfully. “That’s true. A lot of my old friends in the industry have been asking for an introduction—they’d love to meet you.”

Danielle was now a member of the National Research Institute, her status had changed dramatically.

Mr. Hawthorne looked at her with a serious expression.

“I know what you’ve been working on lately. Nexus Prime Aerospace has offered you a position. Would you consider becoming their chief engineer?”

Nexus Prime Aerospace was under government jurisdiction; it would be an excellent opportunity for her career.

“They’re also looking for a new director.”

But Nexus Prime was far from Northridge City—one in the north, one in the south. Taking the job would mean leaving home behind.

Danielle listened, her brow furrowing slightly.

Mr. Hawthorne said, “There’s no rush to answer. I know leaving Northridge City isn’t easy—this is your hometown, after all.”

“The assignment won’t start for another month or so. You’ve got plenty of time to think it over.”

He fixed her with a steady gaze. “Sometimes, leaving is the only way to move forward.”
