The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 620

Danielle finally felt herself letting go.

Feelings couldn’t be forced, and she had no intention of pushing them. When it came to Alexander, her heart was utterly calm—no lingering affection, no regrets. Even seeing another woman in Alexander’s apartment stirred nothing in her; it just felt routine, almost expected.

Nathan said, “Hearing you say that puts my mind at ease.”

Danielle frowned, a little puzzled.

He continued, “I have to admit, joining Vanguard Technologies isn’t quite the same as Alex working over at The Davidson Group. He’s got his father backing him, and Mr. Davidson always knows what’s happening in the city before anyone else. But those secrets? He never shares them with me.”

Danielle paused, her eyes meeting his. She listened in silence, her expression steady and thoughtful.

“There are some things I want to be honest about,” Nathan went on. “Maybe you’ve always wondered what I did after I left the country all those years ago. When the time is right, I promise—I’ll tell you everything.”

“Alex said that I wasn’t there for you back when you needed someone—but it wasn’t for lack of wanting to be there—”

She pressed her lips together. “You had your reasons, Nathan. If you can’t talk about them now, I won’t ask. Just like you’ve never pushed me to share what I wasn’t ready to say.”

She wasn’t desperate to uncover old secrets. Everyone had things they kept to themselves. Still, she couldn’t help but wonder why he was bringing all this up now.

“Mm.”

Nathan left it at that. He set aside his paperwork and closed his laptop, then looked up at her with those dark, intense eyes—serious, almost solemn.

“Now that I know exactly where you stand with Alex, there’s something I want to tell you. No more ambiguity.”

Danielle noticed the gravity in his voice, the careful way he chose his words. She put down the apple and the small paring knife she’d been holding, her posture unconsciously straightening as she braced herself. “If this is about the Davidson family, I’m not sure I should get involved.”

Nathan shook his head. “This isn’t about them. It’s about you—and me.”

Nathan’s gaze grew even more serious.

“There are things I need to say, Danielle. Otherwise, you’ll always think my kindness is just a brother’s love.”

Her hand, resting by her side, clenched into a fist.

But before Nathan could go on, Danielle cut him off, her voice firm—“No.”

She’d only ever seen Nathan as an older brother, nothing more. If those words were spoken aloud, whatever bond they’d once had would be lost.

Nathan watched her, and for a moment, a gentle smile broke through his seriousness. He looked almost tender, but his words were unyielding.

“And what if I said I want to marry you?”
