The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 580

Jake’s face was cold as stone, his words positively crackling with fury.

To him, what happened today was nothing short of playing with fire.

But she—she always played it safe.

“In the end, the Fletchers saved my life. Even if you want to wipe them out, you don’t have to go this far.”

Alexander’s lips curled into a faint, mocking smile as he watched his father, his eyes glinting with icy contempt. “You’ve spent your life playing the loyal hound, Father. I won’t.”

“When a leash is on too long, a wolf forgets it ever had fangs. You’re content letting a woman hold the reins. I’m not.”

Jake’s expression darkened even further.

He raised his hand, about to slap Alexander again, but when their eyes met, he hesitated and froze in midair.

Jaw clenched, Jake spat out, “Is it that you won’t be controlled by a woman, or is it that you won’t be controlled by me? Do you think I’ve been too strict, that I’ve forced you too much all these years?”

“I was hard on you from the start, and maybe you think that means I don’t love you. But I raised you as the heir to the Davidson family. Everything we have is meant for you. So why risk everything now, for this?”

Alexander gave a little chuckle. There was a smile on his face, but it never reached his eyes.

Nathan was his eldest son.

Because of Nathan’s political career, the whole family had to keep up an impeccable image. In business or at home, Nathan was always unfailingly polite, careful never to offend anyone.

Every step was taken as if treading thin ice—utterly cautious.

Yet, because of Jake’s status and the Davidson name, there was never a shortage of people watching them, waiting for a misstep.

Power is a lonely perch.

The higher you climb, the more eyes are fixed on you.

Jake pitied his eldest for being strangled by tradition and social expectations. He’d sent Nathan abroad years ago—no contact, no word, no ties to the family.

Nathan had long since finished his education overseas.

Because of his position, Jake couldn’t leave the country.

Just because Nathan never reached out to the family didn’t mean he didn’t stay in touch with Jake.

And as for Alexander—

He’d always been just another chess piece, guarding the Davidson legacy for Nathan, the true heir.

Alexander slid a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, tapped one out, and lit it, smoke curling around his mouth in the dim light.

His smile was razor-sharp. “Am I the one so desperate to cut ties and take risks? Or did you always have other plans, Father? Now that Nathan’s back, when does the handover begin?”

Jake’s eyes narrowed, his voice turning glacial. “And just what is that supposed to mean?”

“You know exactly what it means.”

Jake’s gaze hardened.

Danielle looked up, meeting his eyes.

There were questions she needed answered.

“You did all this on purpose, didn’t you?”

Alexander shoved his hands in his pockets, voice flat and detached. “What did you expect? You think I did it for you?”

His tone was icy cold.

Those deep-set eyes always held secrets no one else could see.

“Got hit, did you?” Danielle eyed the mark on his face. “You kind of deserve it, honestly. Talking to you is pointless—you never listen. What makes you think I’d ever believe you did any of this for me? Still clinging to the fantasy that I care about you?”

She laughed, brittle. “What are you, some kind of heartthrob?”

Alexander’s brows furrowed, his gaze growing even darker. “Came to see me make a fool of myself? Enjoying the show?”

Danielle didn’t answer, refusing to take his bait.

“Own up to it, why don’t you? When Leanne asked you earlier, you said nothing happened with Millie. But what about these?” She held up her phone, showing him a photo. “Condom wrappers on the table. Were those just for you?”

Alexander stared at the image, eyes unreadable.

He said nothing, just reached out and took the phone from her hand—
