The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 567

He knew perfectly well there was no way to change how things would end.

Still, he’d let her endure that pointless humiliation—dangled hope before her eyes only to snuff it out in an instant, sending her straight into a pit of despair.

Right now, Millie was in agony, her defenses crumbling.

She couldn’t accept either this outcome or the fact that the man before her had betrayed her.

Everything had been fine. How had it come to this?

She couldn’t make sense of it. Their future had always seemed so bright, so full of promise.

How had it all fallen apart?

A bitter, unconvinced smile twisted Millie’s lips.

Alexander’s father was Jake Davidson. The Davidson family was powerful, well connected—there was no way he didn’t understand the stakes here.

Alexander slowly stood.

“You chose to do what you knew you shouldn’t. Now you have to face the consequences,” he said, his voice cold and distant, so unfamiliar it chilled Millie to the bone.

“Alex, are you sure there isn’t some misunderstanding between us? We were perfectly fine before, weren’t we?” she pleaded.

She was supposed to become Mrs. Davidson, to marry into this family. And yet, overnight, everything had fallen apart.

“If you go through with this, Raffy will grow up hating you,” she warned, her voice trembling.

Even if she ended up behind bars, her son would remain with the Davidsons. Someday, she’d get out. She’d see him again.

A guard entered, glancing at Alexander.

Alexander turned his back and waved a hand.

Millie was dragged away.

She fought with all her strength, screaming for Alexander to help her.

One of the officers spoke up. “Ma’am, if you’re truly innocent, we won’t let an honest person suffer. Cooperate with the investigation and you’ll be released. This isn’t a sentence—it’s just procedure.”

His words restored a touch of clarity to Millie’s mind. That’s right, it was just an investigation. She could still get out. Her mother could pull some strings on the outside. Once she was free, she’d leave this place for good.

She looked at Alexander’s retreating figure—so cold, so unfeeling.

Yes, he’d never openly said he wanted to be with her. But everything he’d done had paved the way for her.

If that wasn’t love, what was?

“If you never cared about me, why did you introduce me to all those people when I came back? Why did you open doors for me?” she demanded.

Alexander finally turned to face her, eyes calm and distant. “Is that what you really believe?”

His icy words echoed in Millie’s ears, haunting her all the way to the waiting car.

Once she was gone, an eerie silence settled over the private room.

Alexander’s eyes were dark as night as he stared at her.

“A clean break?” he repeated. “I’d like that too.”

“Danielle, we’re adults. Why keep saying things just to provoke me?”

“Do you really understand what you want? You say you want us completely severed, no connection at all. But no matter how you look at it, you can’t erase the fact that we were once together.”

Once two people’s lives have been intertwined, you can’t just pretend it never happened.

To claim a total break is nothing but a fantasy.

Danielle frowned.

Was she just being stubborn?

She let out a cold laugh. “So in your eyes, everything I say is just to get a reaction out of you?”

“You think you’re that important? Why would I bother provoking you? That only makes sense if I wanted you to come back and make things right. If I were doing this out of spite, that would mean I still cared.”

“Do you really believe I divorced you out of spite? That all of this is just a tantrum?”

Her eyes were icy, her words sharp and clear. “Alexander, you’re a grown man. You know what divorce means. No one uses something like that just to make a point.”

Every word she spoke was deliberate, ringing with finality.
