He and Danielle’s older brother, the one they remembered from years ago, hadn’t really changed much.
He still carried himself with that same effortless confidence.
“Thank you,” Danielle said, not refusing his gesture.
This time, Mr. Hawthorne joined them as well.
After all, it was the European Grand Finals—a global event.
Many industry leaders would be traveling there, too.
Nathan opened the passenger door for Danielle.
She slid in without a second thought.
Not far away, Alexander and Millie happened to walk by and caught sight of the scene.
Millie narrowed her eyes.
She recognized Nathan.
“They look good together, don’t you think?” she said, glancing at Alexander. “Why didn’t she end up with your brother, anyway? He always seemed so fond of Danielle—anyone could see the affection in his eyes.”
The truth was, Millie could never quite understand why so many outstanding men seemed to orbit around Danielle.
Was it her natural allure? Did she have some kind of charm that drew men in?
Alexander’s gaze was cool and distant as he watched the Rolls-Royce disappear down the street.
He looked away, his face unreadable. “She would have liked that.”
Millie paused. “What do you mean?”
Did Danielle have feelings for Nathan?
Alexander didn’t answer.
Millie let the matter drop.

Emberwick Hotel.
Harold called Danielle, inviting her to dinner to discuss the terms of dissolving their partnership.
“This was handled poorly on our end,” he admitted. “Let me offer an apology—and some compensation. Can you come over so we can talk?”
So the issue had been internal.
Danielle’s frown deepened.
He’d gone to all this trouble.
For a moment, she was at a loss for words.
Harold did have his difficulties, after all.
Their internal problems had cut off material supplies, so he’d chosen to end the partnership rather than drag her down—and even went out of his way to introduce her to someone new.
Keegan, for his part, had always wanted to work with her.
“Mr. Chapman is a man of integrity,” Keegan said.
He looked at Danielle. “And he’s helped bring us together. What do you think, Ms. Crawford?”
Danielle didn’t commit right away. “Mr. Atwood will follow up with you about the specifics.”
Harold poured wine into their glasses. “The table’s set with great food—it’d be a shame not to enjoy it. Let me offer a toast to apologize.”
