The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 440

Love this deep always cuts the sharpest.

If you adore someone this much, if you’re truly willing—then die for it.

She wanted his life. Was that really asking too much?

Alexander’s eyes lingered on her, dark and fathomless.

Danielle met his gaze, face unreadable.

They rarely spoke for this long. Usually, he’d say a few words before being called away by business, always distracted, always busy.

Now, the car was silent—her words twisting the air between them, making everything tense and strange.

After a long pause, he finally spoke, voice low. “You hate me that much?”

Danielle didn’t answer.

Hate or not—it hardly mattered.

Sometimes, love has no end, and neither does hate. Any tangled feeling, as long as it still lives between two people, will always be a knot that refuses to come undone.

But Danielle had no wish to be tangled with Alexander any longer.

She looked at him, her eyes steady and calm, waiting for an answer.

Alexander slowly looked away, turning his gaze to the window. His voice was detached. “Not now.”

Not now.

He hadn’t said ‘not ever.’

So he really did love Millie, didn’t he? Loved her enough that even if it cost his life, it’d be worth it—so long as Millie was safe, nothing else mattered.

Danielle would never understand how Alexander could pack so much meaning into just two words. Every time he spoke, the same phrase could mean something entirely different.

“I’m not here to play guessing games,” Danielle said, impatience creeping into her voice. “I’m busy, Alexander. I don’t have time for your riddles.”

He turned his gaze back to her, eyes steady and void of emotion. “Try another offer.”

Danielle gave a short, bitter laugh and reached for the door—only to find it locked.

She glared at him. “Do you really think this is amusing?”

“You’ve always wanted AetherX Dynamics.” Alexander’s tone was almost casual. “It’s yours. Just drop the lawsuit.”

The way he said it—it sounded like he was tossing her a bone.

What’s terrifying is someone who never feels the need to confess, who never reveals joy, sorrow, or rage.

A person with no emotion at all—that’s what you should fear.

Until today, Danielle had thought Alexander was simply self-possessed, unreadable, quietly strong.

But now—

Was he simply a master at hiding his feelings? Or was she just not sharp enough to see them? Or, worse, did he truly have none at all?

It wasn’t Alexander’s coldness that unsettled her.

It was his voice—the way he made it sound as if, if she truly wanted his life, he’d give it to her without a second thought.

Danielle drew a slow breath. In the end, everything he did—every move—was all for Millie.

This was what it looked like to love without restraint, to give everything for someone else.

She turned her gaze away, her tone flat.

“As for Millie, just as you said at the government hearing—let justice decide.”

Fairness was all she wanted. Millie would answer for what she’d done.
