Danielle studied him for a moment.
She hadn’t even done anything substantial yet, but he was already jumping in to defend Millie.
With this incident, AetherX Dynamics was teetering on the edge of collapse.
A mocking smile tugged at Danielle’s lips. “Is that a warning, or a threat?”
Alexander’s gaze was intense as he looked at Danielle’s delicate face. “When are you going to learn not to put on a brave front?”
He swallowed hard. “If you have resources, you should know how to use them.”
By now, Millie had finished her phone call on the other side of the room.
Without another glance at Danielle, Alexander strode off with Millie in tow.
Danielle frowned.
She couldn’t make sense of Alexander’s words. They seemed completely out of left field.
As Liam passed by, he shot Danielle a cold, sidelong glance. “Be careful you don’t end up shooting yourself in the foot.”
Right now she was acting reckless, all because after their divorce, Alex had still treated her with a sort of residual kindness.
She really thought her own charm was the reason she could parade around in front of Millie, stepping on her toes whenever she pleased. But now, she’d practically trampled all over her.
Did she really think, at this point, that Alex was going to let her off the hook?
Danielle’s behavior was downright foolish.
As long as Alexander remained at AetherX Dynamics, the company would never collapse, no matter how hard it was hit.
The agreement between Danielle and Millie—the so-called bet—would only end with Millie as the final victor.
After dropping those words, Liam turned and walked away.
Danielle let out a cold laugh under her breath.
Kirsten emerged from the restroom just in time to see the crowd dispersing.
“What is it now? Come to gloat again?”
Danielle’s tone was calm. “They won’t be so smug for long.”

After the meeting, Danielle didn’t return to the office. Instead, she went straight to the hospital to check on her uncle.
Dr. Gable had messaged her on WhatsApp, saying her uncle’s spirits had improved lately, but he still needed family visits for support.
After seeing her uncle and leaving the hospital, Danielle’s phone rang—it was her grandmother.
Ever since her grandmother had sensed the rift between Danielle and Alexander, she’d had people keeping an eye on any signs of trouble.
“Grandma.”
“Dani, the anniversary celebration was a huge success—you looked beautiful, too. But I know some people put you through a lot.” Her grandmother’s voice was gentle but firm. “I’ve even checked the online gossip myself, just to be sure.”
“Tell me honestly—did Millie really come between you and Alex? If she did, I promise I’ll take care of it for you.”
Danielle held the phone with one hand and rubbed her brow with the other.
Deep down, she knew her grandmother only wanted to help patch up her marriage with Alexander, to resolve whatever stood between them.
Millie pressed her lips together. “Of course he believes me. He’s supporting me all the way. I just hate that Danielle’s drama is holding everything up.”
But now that things had escalated, all Millie could do was wait it out alongside Danielle.
Leanne took a deep breath. “Don’t panic. As long as Alex is on your side, Danielle can’t really stir up much trouble.”
“Is she slandering you, or is there something in this that doesn’t belong to you?” Leanne asked quietly.
Millie’s grip tightened on her phone. “That’s not what matters.”
What mattered was whose idea this project was—who had actually made it happen.

Danielle and Attorney Stewart sat down to discuss the case against Millie.
“Alexander’s hired an elite legal team for Millie from Northridge City’s top law firm. Looks like he’s determined to shield her no matter what,” Stewart remarked.
Danielle let out a cold laugh.
She had expected nothing less—no matter what happened, Alexander always had Millie’s back.
“But you don’t need to worry,” Stewart assured her. “Their team might get her a lighter sentence at best, but they can’t twist the facts.”
Danielle trusted Conrad Stewart completely.
They went over a few more details.
Millie’s lawyers still needed time to organize their evidence.
Before she knew it, Niki and Raffy were graduating from preschool.
